To be fair, there was no way we were gonna overhaul our offensive line in one off-season.
With the Big Whit signing, I honestly think we're only a solid Center away from being OK on the Oline.

I'm also hopeful, that Blythes struggles were due mainly to health reasons.

Ironically enough of all the moves thus far this is the one that actually upgraded us and he was cheaper than who he replaced.

I like this, I love the thought of him and Gaines out there in run downs and short yardage situations. They will eat up the blockers well. Price may be a a few million too high but it’s really hard to judge contracts right now with the future cba incoming.

I was gonna say the same thing. Most of our OL issues came straight up the middle. This is the main focus of our efforts to fix the OL, and it looks like the best way to do this is thru the draft, assuming a stud C doesn't shake loose.

I really like this move. I'm not a big fan of the cost of it, but Robinson is a force on the line and has never had that superstar next to him to free him up.

He's been whiffing in the run game for years. Hopefully, guard just wasn't for him and he finds his calling at center. Focusing only on one position should help.

I think Blythe is our center. We need a guard and Edwards and Havenstein/Evans take left tackle.

Gonna be interesting to see how they play us up the middle. Two powerhouses inside that no one will be able to push around.

Dodgersrf,
This is where I am at myself. I think the "Big Whit" resigning is key to our OL but, additionally, I like the Blythe resigning also because he was miscast as an OG and is much better as our OC.

Don't get me wrong I'm all in for a major upgrade at the Center position if one becomes available in the draft; but until that blessed day Mr. Blythe can hold down the fort at OC and we'll go from there.

I really think that with the resignings and the young guys we drafted last year (Evans and Edwards) if Mr. Havenstein can find his way back from the Twilight Zone, we can have a decent to good offensive line.

Just my .02

Right at this moment, IMO the front 7 looks like:

RDE Okoronkwo
NT Robinson
DT Donald
Wil Mathews
MIKE Floyd
MO Young
SAM Ebukam

I don't think Mathews is near as good as Fowler as his stats are misleading. AD & Fowler set up his sacks. He was far less effective when contested. That front with the exception of AD isn't going to strike fear into any OC. But it's not a bad front with some legit speed at SAM, MO, and MIKE. That will give Staley a lot of options. With Young and Floyd, he will have ILBs with speed to cover and to play sideline to sideline. I don't see it as an elite front but an overall good unit. What will make them better is if the secondary plays as will be expected of both Ramsey and Long. I would expect far fewer zone coverages and more man.

Is this the new norm? Overpaying for underachieving defenders while hoping the Oline gets better with the same players we had last year?

Or am I just turning into a crotchety old man?

Crotchety old man no. Watch the games & see the development.
A”Shawn Robinson I think is a better DT than his old teammate Jaren Reid. One of the better DT combos in college history??
Talk about offensive line ?? Same Offensive line ??? Yes - have you ever heard of experience. You were not all of a sudden an Old Man. It took time.

Don’t see how you get Floyd at Mike anyway. What blows my mind is how
little A’Shawn Robinson is being talked about ?? Here it is Sunday & you posted wrong on a Thursday.
No one has posted here since Wednesday? It sucks The Rams can’t have a press conference.

You been watching the last couple years during free agency? Go in any website and look at the signings threads almost all of them say the same thing "too much money". Salary cap keeps going up and up and in 2 years it's rumored to go up a whole lot more than it's been going up which has been impressive. The best thing is it's a 2 year deal which is another norm. How many 3 year $30 million deals have you seen? Hint it's a lot. Players know in a couple years the cap is going to spike a ton and they want to be free agents for that.

Well it could be a win win for both The Rams & A”Shawn Robinson. My take is I wish it were 3 years . This guy is going to be one of the better D”Tackles The Rams have had. Aaron Donald is a freak & is a different type of DT. He will push a pile back.
His contract will keep him happy just the way you explained his signing. The Rams will get a Comp Pick for him.
