Head-on on a player (0, 2, 4-tech) does not mean 2-gap. Can be that, can be 1-gap, can be 1-½gap

Example--Kobie is in a 0-tech, but is not two-gapping. This is great play with old fashioned crossbuck action by RBs

In Fangio system---Sam and Will are the outside linebackers ... and Sam is strong, Will is weak (of course, people know that) but it is based on the side of two receivers. Not the TE. You could have a 2x2 with TE one side but the RB then determines strength.

The ILBers - Mike and Jack (E. Jones and Rozenbloom) oddly ARE mostly aligned to and away from TE, with some exceptions. So Mike is to the TE and Jack is away from TE.

In Penny there is only a MIKE. In sub defenses there can be a 4-2-5 and one of the "2" is a safety playing dime linebacker. That's the money backer.

some of base Rams fronts - plus Penny, which is a nickel but Rams use this a lot, it is the so-called "light box" people talk about. And for every base there are a lot of calls in the fronts, just like in the various nickel fronts which are a 4-man surface, rather than a 5 or 6-man surface ..

Turner is upgrade over Gaines. A difference maker. Johnson getting snaps, Young going to make all-rookie...there are some positive things happening with young guys on defense that had to be gutted

Really good stuff. Makes you appreciate the pick even more. No, he's not Aaron Donald Part II. But who is? I think when Aaron finally hangs it up we'll be in good hands at the position. Especially when they have to worry about Young on the edge. Find another quality edge opposite him and our pass rush will be really good.

Agree. I was wrong on him. I didn't think he would play NT. I saw him as a 3/4i tech.
But in base D he's been good as a NT.
In nickel he's been the over a guard--which is where I expected him, but he's better as a rookie than
I thought.

Never seen a Rams rookie DT with better use of hands other than #99

Is that what the media was claiming? Turner was good in college. If he was a first round pick, maybe it would be a reach, but a mid to late third round pick seems reasonable.

The draft show I was watching loved the pick for the Rams. They thought we got a steal.
