S BLAKE COUNTESS, 86.3 OVERALL GRADE
After starting last season on the Rams’ practice squad before being promoted to the 53 man roster in November, Countess was hoping to stick on the Rams roster again and contribute some time on defense. Performances like Saturday night’s one will help that. Countess was targeted four times allowing two receptions for only 12 yards, only two of which came after the catch. Countess also added in two pass breakups and when he was targeted he
allowed a passer rating of only 56.3.
I been beating this DB's drum since last season. In the 1st PS gm.BC played both
SS &
FS posts for way over a half & looked excellent as our
3rd string Free Safety. We observed a change up with DB
Blake Countess (BC} last night, where BC played most of the time in the corner
Nickle, much like last season in the last two games when he replaced SSLB/Nickle Joyner. That's why he was involved in all those targeted plays.
Its evident that Wade is looking @ BC in 3 different playing posts currently. I can say he has passed expectations thus far.
BC's might be gaining on both
Lamarcus Joyner & Davis. Our 1st team FS Joyner had a rough outing that ended in his replacement. Our 2nd team FS
Cody Davis replaced Joyner early after penalty on that TD when Joyner came up woozy. Davis had an
average so so performance & is usually good in deep coverage but sure did not
shine last night. Not what you would expect for a 28 yr old entering his 6th NFL season. Cody has ST value too as a gunner which will help his cause. Cody plays on all of Bones ST's. But in truth Cody is a 1 post reserve safety. Sure Cody can play SS but he can not bring the hit with any of his tackles.
Which now leads me back to our subject......BC is a very cheap
econo priced DB so is SS Marqui Christian both Joyner & Davis will be UFA's in 6 months not the case with BC & Christian who will remain
econo priced DB's until 2019. Then there's talented rookie John Johnson who has been working in OTA's & TC as a 3 post DB too.I think these 3 mentioned posts are tightening up some more than we ever thought. Should I also bring out like
@LACHAMP46 said during the gm that "Mo not so TJ like thus far". Mo has not stood out ether.
