From what I have read and heard, there's a lot of talent in the middle rounds and even late at various positions, TE, RB, EDGE, DT, CB but so so at WR (which supposedly there's talent in mid rounds but not much top or bottom) and offensive line overall. QB is what it is, of course.

So draft sorta aligns with some of our needs in finding quality mid to late.
Agree about not much at the top, disagree with there not being much at the bottom. There's a lot of interesting receivers at the bottom of this year's draft. It's obviously not as strong as prior years, but that doesn't mean that it's lacking depth.

To answer your question (excellent post btw), I don't think high expectations are unrealistic at all.

There are some on here who keep lamenting the loss of Brad Holmes - like he was the real brains behind everything.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but he had nothing to do with the last two drafts.
It was the guy that went to the jaguars from the Rams that had some magic. Head of scouting or something like that. It will be fun to see what kind of success he has cause they need it. Another mcvay tree coach. Amazing.

Yeah, I don’t believe it. I think a lot of it is draft hype.

It seems like this was reported at the end of the college season... I tend to find draft hype being narratives that start later on in the process (IE, look at all the people talking up the QBs now). Though I don't think that's a hard and fast rule.

It feels like whatever the narrative right after the CFB season is almost always seems to be directionally right at the bare minimum.

Isaac TeSlaa (Arkansas) is my main guy, but Zakhari Franklin (Illinois), Moose Muhammad III (Texas A&M), Nick Nash (San Jose State), Juice Wells (Ole Miss), Andrew Armstrong (Arkansas), Dont'e Thornton Jr. (Tennessee), Theo Wease (Missouri), Pat Bryant (Illinois), KeAndre Lambert-Smith (Auburn), Kobe Hudson (Central Florida), Ricky White III (University of Nevada Las Vegas), Sam Brown Jr. (Miami), Roc Taylor (Memphis), Kaden Prather (Maryland), Will Sheppard (Colorado), LaJohntay Wester (Colorado), De'Corian Clark (University of Texas San Antonio), etc.

Lots of good depth for Day 3, and I'm only mentioning the guys I like.

That narrative was that’s it’s low on stars but good for starters. So, how good do you have to be to start. Lots of jags are starters.

I think the hype for the middle rounds has really increased. But certain people I listened to don’t seem to be as high on most of these guys. So, are guys like Tice just ‘geeking out’ (his own words) and getting excited because they love the draft?

It behooves these TV types like Shrager and Kiper to get people excited about the draft. Talking about it not being a great draft, doesn’t get views. But the deeper I look into it, the fewer mid round gems I see. With fewer good players, the odds go against the Rams to repeat the recent success.

I’m still hoping they do. I just think after round 2 it’s going to be very difficult to find anyone that can contribute right away, aside from special teams.

The Rams are not likely to draft more than 1 or 2 guys who can start this year. But that does not mean it will not be a successful draft. They will be looking more for role players, depth, and future starters (developmental replacement types). Barring injuries the roster is pretty strong and the starting roles are pretty set. A first round corner might be able to start. A first round WR. Could start in 11 personnel. A 1st round OT will not start unless there are injuries but that to me is big need since tackles can be hard to find. A first round DT or edge will likely not start but can definitely become a key rotational piece to replace Hocht. An off-ball lb like Cambell might be able to start. I don’t see them finding any staters at interior OL or at safety. I don’t even need to mention QB.

Which supports BPA for first couple picks then an eye on depth at CB/LB/OT/TE with remaining.

I’m going into this draft like we are playing Chess and most everybody else is playing checkers. We can’t help but have another great draft. We’ll get better with who we pick.

Barring any trades, I think we have two halves of this draft. The first half leans ILB, WR, CB, RB or TE to find the talent that most likely would be noticed this season on the field. Second half of the draft, like almost all drafts, teams are trying to upgrade backups. Of course, trades change everything.

Statistically, we are due for a not great draft.

But here's hoping we don't regress to the mean!

This is why I always tend to favor them going up for a guy they covet as even if they lose picks the guys they covet probably have the biggest chance to hit.
A perfect example of this was last year. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Rams were trying to move up and select Brock Bowers. Bowers absolutely killed it last year...

McSnead offered the Jets their 1st, 2nd, & 3rd round choice for their 1st and 6th round choice.

I really wanted Bowers pre-draft, but that would have been a HORRIBLE TRADE.

IMO, other teams stopped the Rams from hurting themselves the year before too when they tried to trade up.

This team could be minus some significant core talent if the other teams didn't turn them down.

You got that wrong. Read it again. He makes the comment that "the guys they covet probably have the biggest chance to hit." Well, they coveted Bowers and Bowers was a huge hit!!!

IMO, the Rams need to get depth at O-line. After winning SB 56, their O-line was a mess and a losing season was the result instead of running it back. This past season, our O-line was a wreck, among other things. Once the line was stable and protecting Stafford, we started winning and had a shot at the Super Bowl this season, An investment in the O-line is necessary in my opinion.
