Goff is just in that same tier of player Russell Wilson was with Seattle. Its difficult to evaluate a player in that tier because their play typically fluctuates drastically depending on the situation around them. I never thought about this comparison when Goff was here, but Seahawks fans and some in the media were throwing the 'elite' tag on Wilson and it used to drive me up a wall. If he had truly been that good, they never would have lost a game back in 2013-2015.

Kyren is a good example of a RB in this tier - I saw on another site that last year he had something close to 0 yards over expected, or something like that - basically an advanced stat saying he's the epitome of average. But he clearly has a "nose for the end zone", and can look the part at times.

Still waiting for a good article from shit show times.

It really is unreal the amount of dissing Goff has received throughout his career and to this day.

I was a pretty harsh critic of his but the piling on is like something I’ve never seen. It’s like a syndrome.

Agree. I believe the clinical term is GDS (Goff Derangement Syndrome).

The dude regressed with some really shit games. I wonder if John Wolford supplanting him at his lowest point would have been enough to get his game work ethic reset - - without needing the trade to Detroit. I think it would have.

I'll always believe the final straw was the "I'd pipe her" he posted in the team group chat. We all say/post stupid shit when we're drinking - - I hope he was drunk.

But how do you know whether he's going to do the work, or get distracted by money or girls or whatever else life brings.
This right here. I reached some success in my mid-20's climbing the ladder at work, and took the "work hard, play hard" a little too far. I fucked around and found out. Without getting knocked down like that and losing it all, I'm not sure I'd have comeback and achieved as much as I have. Life certainly does carve interesting paths for all of us.

I've defended Goff for the most part--I was wanting them to rebuild the line after '20 and give him another opportunity--and still believe he's a good QB. Holmes in Detroit appears to have followed the blueprint of 2017/2018 Rams and what made Goff good in those years.

But then every time I think he really is good enough to take a team to the SB and win--I mean, he beat the Saints and took the Rams to the SB after all--I recall that Stan Humphries played in a Super Bowl too.

It feels like the only way Goff will ever get that sort of respect is if he wins a Super Bowl (and plays well).
I dont know if that will even do it
I agree on the lack of respect part, it's pretty crazy.
I'm glad things worked out the way they did but think Goff deserves a lot more credit for the success over there

I was similar in my career. Every time I fucked up and had to own it I channeled that into improving. Failure truly is the best teacher.

I will bet that if you were to discuss this over a beer with Goff he realizes being cast off by the Rams made him better. Clearly he has busted his ass in Detroit and done a good job.

Question is can he win the big one. He has an elite team around him.

Throwing Goffs record from his rookie year in his face is so shameful. I’ve been pretty strong on my feelings towards Jared here so people know how I feel. But I’ve never seen the demonization of a QB quite like this. He is in year 10 and has put together a quality NFL career. Multiple playoff wins, a ton of big moments and game winning drives. He is his own man now and a play caller isn’t going to change much at this point for him.
I wouldn't discount a play caller making a difference. A good one can make Goff's job and that coach's an easier one for sure. I honestly just think Goff has so much more experience, reps, and knowledge from his years of starting as a NFL QB that is now bearing fruit. Unfortunately the time for him to do so just didn't align with the timeline the Rams were on to pursue a Superbowl with AD, Kupp, etc. Goff has done a nice job of landing on his feet in Detroit.
