McVay playing with a lead and conservative mode/clock killing mode/mistake free mode…..

It’s not that I think he goes to it too early, the problem is that we’re not good at it. At all.

The moment those possessions begin, the playcalling goes from our gold standard “marry the run and pass/everything looks the same” to “here’s a package and playcall designed to only run it.”

This offense functions well in rhythm when the defense isn’t sure what’s coming out of the same looks.

When the offense is behind and needs to speed it up and start slinging it, it usually looks pretty good as well. The defense knows what’s coming but can’t stop it(usually).

Whenever the Rams need to just run it or even make a short pass in “conservative mode” to get first downs, it often looks dysfunctional. I’ve seen worse teams have better success when trying to close out a game. It’s frustrating.

IMO this is a bigger issue than the defense giving up a soft TD up two scores with 5 min to go. You count on your(top 5) offense to be able to get 20 yards and a couple first downs to end it.

3 of 4 TEs whiffed on Blocks, only one I didn't see was Ferg whiffing
I saw Ferg play but was only in to Block, did anyone see him go out for a pass?
I saw one or two plays he did, but stafford had to check down ( incomplete) and was almost sacked.

You nailed it. It is the same thing as our prevent defense only for offense and when the rams impliment either one I get really worried about the outcome.

Do you trust Sam (Darnold) Poll

I was thinking back on who all we've played now, and its pretty wild:

Texans - 5-5
Titans - 1-9
Eagles - 8-2
Colts - 8-2
Niners - 7-4
Ravens - 5-5
Jaguars - 6-4
Saints - 2-8
Niners - 7-4
Seahawks - 7-3

We've only played two teams thus far that have a losing record. The Ravens didn't have Lamar, yes - but their game against us in hindsight marked the start of their defensive turnaround, and they got several key players back against us. The Texans started poorly but clawed back to .500 - that included the healthy Bucs needing a last second TD to beat them, and they pushed Seattle a bit late in their game against them. They were also healthy against us. The Jaguars beatdown, at the time, looked like maybe we exposed them. Not so after the shellacking they put on the Chargers. They were also pretty healthy against us.

56-46 is the combined record, BUT if you remove our games.....our opponents thus far are 54-38 against the rest of the league, and we have a point differential of 100 in ten games - so we are winning by an average of double digits each game. Against teams that are OVER .500, we are 4-2, with the two losses being fluky.

I am starting to think this could be the best team of the McVay era.
Niners 2x, Ravens and Saints playing backup QBs. Darnold way overrated due to their schedule and defense.

The rams defense is probably the best in the Mcvay era and the Puka/Adams combo makes the offense better then recent years.

If the Oline stays healthy we can definitely compete for a Ring.
