So he has been a part of the shitshow all season but we think he’ll be better in charge???

I’ll hope for improvements but not holding my breath.

Don't punters also make the call sometimes to run a fake punt if they see something they like about how a team is lined up? It seems if a punter can make that call the special teams coach could too if he saw something he thought could work but I guess protocol is to run it by the HC
Ok, @LouisvilleRam about that new Avatar, my friend…

Well...it's not a surprise. We all have worried about STs becuase of blocked field goals,, being on "pins and needles" on pumt returns, etc.

It was bound to happen, but I thought it would be earlier. Hopefully, it gets a good fix and STs is solid from here on.

We’ve had some decent ones. Amendola was good in his limited time as a punt returner as I recall. Tavon Austin was great. In McVays first year we had Pharoh Cooper but it didn’t end well. Even in 2021 we signed Brandon Powell off the street who had a nice rerun in his first game.
Cooper was ok

Austin drove me nuts
He ran more yards sidling to sideline than towards positive yards.
I don’t think Austin ever figured out that he wasn’t still playing against college players

He has led some decent ST units in the past, so I think there is reason for cautious optimism. Coaching changes can spark teams too. I don't expect STs to be great. I do expect them to improve from where they were, which was arguably worst in the NFL.

I seem to recall he had a LOT of punt returns called back by penalties. Like a LOT. Many of them were TDs. It definitely wasn't a talent issue.
