A smart team would then assume his 3rd round contract if he’s on the roster on opening day. You can’t claim someone on waivers and then move them to the practice squad. I doubt any team will want to pick up his contract at this point partially because he’s got an ankle injury and mostly because he put up a lot of bad tape in the preseason. Rams wanted him to claim a spot and gave him plenty of opportunities and he just wasn’t among the best on the roster. A smart first year offensive line coach would value ability over contract status and keep the best for the roster.

Are you sure? I thought I heard it explained this way just today.
Four hours after waivers are processed tomorrow teams can begin signing players to their practice squad. What do you think they move guys from the active roster to the PS? That's kind of the opposite of how the system works. You can during the season move players on and off the practice squad active roster. But a player has to be a free agent for a team to sign them to the practice squad.

Stretching the definition of "high pick" there.

Rochell and Harris were 4th rounders. Lewis and Bruss late thirds. Not uncommon for them to not work out.

Rapp was a mediocre starter for us - that's about what to expect for where he was drafted.

Long was on the field for the last defensive play of the Super Bowl and I believe his coverage forced Burrow to hold the ball. Hendo had some key catches in the Super Bowl - and both those guys were third round picks.

That doesn't even get into the other hits over the years.
Exactly. Rochell and Harris both had measurable athleticism but they just couldn’t play the game. Rapp was decent his first season or so because they used him as a box safety/ hybrid linebacker. The last few years he’s been playing almost a deep safety role and he got more lost the further you got him away from the line of scrimmage. Coaches have to put players in position to succeed. Rapp was helpless in coverage. Too small to be a linebacker and too stiff to cover anyone in the secondary.

A claiming team has to place the player on their own 53 man roster if they are claiming them off waivers. In this case they would be assuming Bruss’s contract. The Rams or any other team could put Bruss on their practice squad but only AFTER the player clears waivers. I thought you knew the rules but you obviously didn’t read them.

Yes if they claim them off waivers. I never said a smart team would claim him off waivers. I said they would pick him up and stash him on PS. Never said claim you said that. After the waiver process teams can sign players straight to their practice squad.

Exactly! After the player clears waivers. Now you have it. Your original post was incorrect but we fixed it. You’re welcome.

My initial post was not wrong lol. I haven't changed anything from the first post about Bruss going on a PS to this post now.

A smart team will pick up Bruss and stash him on their PS. He was hurt his rookie year which halted his development and was coming back his second year from that injury and moving positions for the second year in a row. A smart OC/HC/OL coach picks him up based off his college tape and coaches him up.
Never said a smart team claims him off waivers. You read something that wasn't there. I said a smart team picks him up. Never said claimed. Also for the record if a team claims him that doesn't mean he can't be moved to the PS.

I think we identified the problem, your reading comprehension is lacking. It's all good I'm glad we could fix that for you on this issue at least.

Have a nice day.
