In years past, I've always had a pit in my stomach when tied with the Hawks this late in the season and we have a game at CLink left in two weeks. For one, it won't be nearly as loud as it usually is in this situation. We have a scrappy Oline and a promising RB to pound the rock, We have an excellent defense.

We should win that game and the division. Still, take care of the Jets this week and get ready. Like I said elsewhere, we would beat the Pats, have a close games vs the Jets, beat Seattle in Seattle, and rest players vs the Cardinals. I'm pretty sure that we have nothing to play for if we do these things, except for pride.

It'll depend on the Packers. We're going to want that #2 seed. It's currently the difference between playing Tom Brady and the Bucs or the Cards/Vikings.

Who cares about seeding. Let's play the best teams in the playoffs and beat their asses.

What's amazing to me is that Aaron Donalds sack numbers in year seven (3 games to go) is tied with KC Chiefs great Derrick Thomas, which is around 85 sacks. Thomas was a defensive end and AD is a DT, which makes it even more impressive to me. It has always given me a sense of wonder watching Aaron play. He is the best player I have ever seen, which includes childhood hero, Merlin Olsen.

Very satisfying win. I needed that. This has been an emotional roller coaster of a week for yours truly as my father died Tuesday and as you can imagine, I've been down. I needed something to put a smile on my face. This definitely did the trick. Dominant defensive performance? Check. Dominant running game? Check. McVay adapting by leaning heavily on 12 personnel to thwart the Sith Lord's evil schemes? Check. Beating the be-hated Patriots this year, after beating Tom Brady earlier this year? Check. Guaranteeing a winning season? Check.

It was a good night.

So very sorry for your loss. Makes me wish we had a "Hug" button...

And you're right, this game did the trick.

I'd much rather play Kirk Cousins or Kyler Murray than Tom Brady. Plus, we'd get a home game in the second round if we get the #2 seed and win. It matters.

By far my favorite game plan offensively.
The first time since 18 we have completely committed to the run, for a full game.
This seriously will help our play action game. Not for just tonight, but for
games coming in the future. Teams will have to spend more time preparing for our 12 personnel.
Because it ain't no joke!!!

Congrats #23!!! You played a hell of a game!!!!!

Totally agree. I've been waiting, and waiting, for McVay to call a game like this. Run the damn ball in a game where you can instead of always defaulting to the pass. It will make the Rams' O much harder for defenses to game plan against.

We don't have to do it all the time, or make it the strategy for every game. Just having the option of going physical and downhill for even a single drive will change the way defenses look at us. And yeah, it will open up the play action again.

It has to be said, how Fucking shit are the Chargers and wonderboy Herbert to lose 45-0 to that Fucking shit team?

.

In all fairness, Belichick has been a nightmare for rookie QBs and we did a much better job in taking the STs out of the game on both sides.

BTW our boy Goff has now tied Norm Van Brocklin in the Rams all time QB wins at number 3 with 42 wins. 5 more wins and he'll be #2.

Yea I thought the exact same thing. I think Thomas was considered a LB because he often rushed from the inside. He was often ublocked or single blocked by RB's. Yet Donald who faces double teams at a minimum, every snap, has the same production as Thomas. It is truly insane. Donald is a living legend.

In the past, I've said we should stick with 11 personnel because it plays to our strengths. This year, I think 12 personnel probably plays more to them. Reynolds isn't Cooks or Watkins. If Van emerges, we might consider more 11 personnel, but otherwise, I think it makes a lot of sense to play more 12.

Couple of things.

1) we're doing very well running those B gap runs on either side. Our RBs can get to the edge, so often that B gap is open. We've figured out the 6-1 using a number of means including using 12 personnel, play action and TEs releasing into the seams.

2) That drop by Reynolds which might have been a house call isn't gonna sit well with McVay. The only worse drop was Brown at the end of the half who had acres of green in front of him. I expect to both see more of Van going forward as well as for us to look for or promote a speedster come next year.

3) Our success in 12 allows us to just GRIND the clock. Couple that with our D and we have Championship football.

One other thing about our defense today was the play of Hollins, and Young. Hollins has versatility, size, speed, pass rush ability, and pretty good instincts. Crazy we were able to pick him up off the waiver wire but shows how well Staley understands LBs. One thing that might have been overlooked regarding our perceived LB weakness, was the Staley effect. He was the OLBs coach for Fangio he is really bringing out the best in our LB core. Young played a great game sideline to sideline and flashed his athleticism too with his best game as a pro.

I don't want to have to play a playoff game in Green Bay.

I'd rather if it came to it to play in LA. Four things can disproportionately affect games

1) Noise. Not an issue this year and it shows with there being almost no homefield advantage thus far

2) Early season heat, esp if there's humidity. Florida in September has cost many a visiting team

3) Altitude. Denver will always be a tough place to play just for this reason

4) Late season cold. It has taken out plenty of teams including a bunch of Rams teams in Minnesota...

So yeah, I'd MUCH rather the Rams have as much chance to play at home as possible.

Let's not get too excited. It is not like the Pats are that good.

We did what a good team is supposed to do against a mediocre team. A mediocre team that was coming in high off a big win at that. This late in the season, consistency is everything. Look at how far the Seahawks and Pittsburgh have fallen out of SB favor due to embarrassing late season losses.

Why are people questioning the bananas? They give you energy to get things done. Nothing better.

.

Interesting thing for me is that looking around on another forum I frequent, the fans of the other top NFC teams all seem to think we're their biggest competition in the playoffs (because of our completeness). But yes, we definitely want to avoid playing in Green Bay.
