Well, offhand - they had more needs and holes they wanted to fill than picks - so they went where they felt there was value. They didn't interview half a dozen QBs for the heck of it, during a time they were very busy. And they have kept three quarterbacks, even for part of last season. They cut the third eventually because he wasn't very good, and they had other uses for the roster spot.
Here's a hint - Bortles is on the team for one season. There needs to be someone developed - but given they have many more needs for 2020 than they had picks, they picked where they felt there was value. You know, like good teams do.
It is sheer fantasy to think that the Rams looked at QBs for the heck of it. Before the draft multiple posters listed the Rams' needs - which were more than their picks. Nothing unusual about that, at least if you actually pay attention.
They haven't brought in a UDFA QB because they already have a camp arm. Why waste time on another guy who isn't worthwhile from the Rams' perspective? There's only so many snaps even in preseason, and Bortles will be taking a lot of work, trying to bring him up to snuff. If the right guy comes available, that changes things though.
The right guy comes along. Like ??
More needs at other positions than QB ? Well
I think I have been paying Attention!!
I put the bet up on the site just to prove my POINT ?? The Rams were already set at QB !!
Yes !! If I see a Dak Prescott or even say who ever else ?? Yes you need to be ready to draft a QB ?? Wasting time looking at a QB ??
The Rams went & worked out a couple other players as well McVay & Snead said we’re looking at Liam & Walton. I think a RB ??
Maybe it was Henderson because they wanted to know his skill set catching the ball.
They did it on the down low so some body like yourself did not have the heads up. It doesn’t take a genius to know the QB class was not very deep & there was no one they would have been able to draft with there salary cap issues. They had the lowest 3 in amount of space to use for rookie picks.
In fact they saved money moving out of the first round.
You wanted to make it such a point weeks before the draft about a QB !! Now your saying it’s my first time watching a draft.
I used to have a better idea on almost all the top picks. Truth is I was hoping The Rams could get David Long in the 3rd once they picked Henderson. I was not sure McVay was going to make that move on a RB!!
I was thinking they might have messed up by passing on him. They did a excellent job to come away with pieces they did.
When it comes to offensive lineman there are a few players teams can get late that really make an impact. Noteboom last year I flat out loved he had a chance to play LT !! Especially behind Whitworth. What a great pick.
Kromer his first year as a Rams coach told McVay there was not enough value with the offensive line to draft early. That he liked the young lineman The Rams has.
EVERYONE I listed to was pissed The Rams traded back !! When Copper Kupp was drafted it settled down the draftniks. The fact was Everett was a McVay guy(3 TE’s on draft board) , but we’re able to get John Johnson for free.
Looking a 2019
Adderley was there at 60, then Rams picked Travis Rapp at 61. Thought David Long.
This year I wanted Josh Oliver who went 69, was not sold on Warring. When The Rams went Henderson I knew McVay had him circled & was the playmaker he talked about.
—Then looking at the draft board never thought David Long Wood be there. When The Rams drafted him it was perfect.
The next pick had to be OT or DT. When Kromer went OT & talked about Zach working with him was cool. They scout together & have there views. Reminds me of seeing Belacheat with his son , but Zach is an up and coming coach imo.
Gaines was a nice pick. The Rams gave up a lot to move up to get him, but who knows what his upside is. I wanted a TE in the draft, but the guys I liked were gone.
A DT/NT is a postion I’m really Happy The Rams finally drafted . When was the last time that has happened.I go back to when Hasselt was coaching. The Rams are a 3/4 defense which I love !! Clay Matthews & Fowler are cool to have right now. Then all the other young players that can develop year in & year out.
