I really can't understand the overrated part...Who is so high on him that he could even be overrated ???.

There were a lot of glowing scouting reports when he came out.....comparisons to Richard Seymour were frequent. Watching him at LSU, it was hard to believe someone as big as him could move like he did.....300 pounds but quick as a cat.

If Prisco is calling him overrated now, it's because in 2013 he predicted Brockers would get 10+ sacks. That's not very realistic.

Overrated... by who exactly?

How is someone whose name I don't believe I've even heard on ESPN or NFL Network even once (other than talking about the RG3 trade) since he was drafted, overrated?

Once again, Prisco showing us why we shouldn't read anything he writes.

I have no problem with Prisco thinking Brockers is overrated because if he has to come up with someone who is the likely candidate? Maybe Janoris? However, comparing Brockers to other Dlinemen shows that Prisco doesn't understand Michaels role in the D.
This is strange, imo, about this one....but rating a relatively unknown DT overrated? How?

He's a good player, but was a top 15 pick and let's face it... Not exactly a household name.

Brockers owns that.

As my last word on this, I think when Donald came around it changed the dynamic of what should be expected of Brockers, because it changed what was going to be asked of him...If he does what the coaches want him to do, then he's hardly overrated...And the whole draft position thing is kind of weird...It's not like he asked to be drafted where he was taken..Instead of him being overrated, maybe the scouts and coaching staff were overrated with regard to their ability to size up ability...Just call me dysfunctional, I'm really tired tonight...

Overrated: have a higher opinion of (someone) than is deserved.

So, I guess, my question is ... what is the opinion of Brockers out there that is undeserved?

Judging a runstopping DT with sack totals is the easiest way to make me not treat you as credible.

Besides the fact that Donald and Brockers are doing different things - their roles on the team are radically different - saying that somebody WHO IS NOT BEING PRAISED AS A BIG STAR is overrated because he is overshadowed by a phenom is just bizarre. Oh, and the other people Brockers is being compared to - were ALL drafted before him. So he is overrated because apparently he isn't as good as others who were rated higher than him, and who have different roles.

Just a silly, amateurish article.

But he was supposed to be the opposite - a sack machine who might struggle against the run. He started off getting sacks but fell away a bit and is now a good run stuffer and "space eater".

Another stupid article IMHO.
I would think just about every team in the league would be happy to have Brockers starting for them.

When he was drafted he had big question marks about his pass rushing, but he was expected to be a guy who would take on two OL to allow others to get to the QB. He turned out to be better than expected against the pass - but his big strength has always been doing the work in the trenches the team needs to make the rest of the line look good. And last year, with AD, the emphasis was on him almost totally focusing on making sure that that two OL could not really focus themselves on anybody but him - they might come off a block and try to chip somebody else, but they couldn't really double team AD, and they couldn't keep the linebackers totally in their sights.

He did a good job at that. I'm not saying that he's the best ever at that - but he was nicely solid, and Fisher is apparently pleased with him.

Including the rams who picked up his 5th year option.

“This 2012 first round pick hasn't lived up to the expectations inside and was clearly outplayed by 2014 rookie Aaron Donald next to him last season,” Prisco wrote of Brockers."

Spectacular ignorance from this writer. The reason Donald played so well was because he was able to go one on one a lot of the time thanks to ........ guess who? Michael Brockers.

Is it too much to ask a journalist covering this sport to do some research? I realise he was quoting from another person but he basically endorses what's said by not challenging it.

While I understand what you are saying I have to disagree based on the relative weakness of that draft class.

This is one of the main reasons I dislike citing draft position as an argument for anything. Each class is different.

Could the Rams gone another direction and done better that year? Would other teams have drafted him much lower than the Rams did? Maybe, but I'm not going to hold that against Brockers.

Can I ask where you saw that? Because even his NFL scouting report says that he has poor pass rushing technique and excels at stopping the run and I don't think I've ever heard anybody ever say he was supposed to be anything but an amazing runstopper.

No you are right. I am wrong on this one actually. I had in my head he was touted out of LSU as a pass rushing specialist (possibly because he's not "oversized") rather than a run blocker - but looking back at the analysis everyone was saying "phenomenal run defender - raw as a pass rusher".

The plan was to turn him into a pass rusher as well. He showed much improvement in 2013 but things changed once Donald started. He is still an important piece of the dline though. And the rams know that.
