Very glad for the win and you can never take those for granted. Hamilton and Humphrey being back bolstered their pass defense a bit.

That said...

I was surprised - pleasantly so - that we only punted twice in this game, and once was to just to run/run/run to get the Ravens to use their timeouts.

The offensive performance won't look great, but then you notice the time of possession and can kind of see why - in terms of yards.

Execution in the redzone was bad again though - five trips and only two TDs.

I am guessing McVay went for it on the last one to work on those issues, knowing the game was basically over.


This was a weird game - after watching the highlights back, I came away thinking:

Offense was mostly the same its been all year - in limited time of possession, we should have scored 23 pts (make the first FG and kick it instead of going for it on 4th toward the end), while moving the ball up and down the field all game. McVay's biggest issue by far is and always has been the redzone. Adams had a few uncharactistic drops, and had a chance for a spectacular TD catch that he didn't make - the wind gives a bit of a pass for the offense too, so overall I'd say they played well.

Defense only allowing 3 is good - but that time of possession....at times it felt like we repeated the gameplan against the Niners on known passing situations. I don't understand the run game issues early on though - given the wind and how bad Rush was the previous week, we had to know they'd come out running.

ST - the blocking was good, kickoff/coverage stayed good, Evans punted well - the Ravens got one return and I'm going to say that was an exception to the other issues we've been facing.

Finally.....I'll just say, I like Karty. That said....I would stick with him. He kicked very well last year. The FG blocking was better too.

But if I'm McVay, I go to Karty and Blackburn and say, quietly - hey guys, one more chance here. We need to get this locked in or its out of my control.

First time we had a really bad run defense and Reeder being in the game - coincidence?
 
Yesterday was a strange game indeed. The Rams should have blown them out but a win is a win. If/when this team gets their shit together they are definitely a super bowl-caliber team. Provided they stay healthy of course. Great defensive players, great offensive players... so so special teams (lol) but who cares right now. Firm up that blocking on kicks and they should be ok. I believe Karty is fine but the line has to block better. But the team's overall potential is way up there! Let's get a W in London and then rest for the second half. Go Rams!

The 2 prior years there were lots of holes to fill. So we had a lot of picks starting out of the gate. Now there isn't holes at the positions that the picks were made, especially on Offense. Hard to get on the field as a TE, WR, RB.

An unpopular opinion, but it might be good in the long run to have Puka sit this week. Not just because it would give him 3 weeks until his next game, but it might be good for Stafford to have to rely on Adams, Higbee, and maybe even Ferguson a bit. It may get the offense more varied and unpredictable going forward.

Great example of why I think these Grades are Bull-Shit.

We're not coaches or players but die-hard, life-long fans, who watch every snap of every game (and re-watch knowing the results) AND, are objective in what they are viewing (no fan-boy bull-shit) ... KNOW a lot more about the players ON THEIR TEAMS than the name-less people that put-out these grades.

Reeder knows where he is supposed to be. He just often can NOT get there; and, if he does, is often unable to make the play.

Just one example. Landman's strip of Flowers early in the 3rd quarter, with the score 10-3. Easy to find.

1st and 20 from the Ravens' 26. Flowers catches the pass at the 29 ... Reeder is in perfect position at the 32 ... Flowers steps back two yards to the 27 (that's 1 YARD beyond the line-of-scrimmage) ... Reeder moves up to the 30 ... three yards from the ball-carrier, and they are facing each other.

Flowers fakes to the right sideline (they are already on the right hash) ... there are two other Rams covering the right side but Reeder goes for the fake to the right ... he is done ... he has lost contain ... and, he lacks the athleticism, speed and quickness to adjust and turn to his right and get to Flowers to make the tackle ...
or even slow-down Flowers who runs 10 more yards to the 36 when Landman punches the ball free.

If Landman had not forced the fumble, Flowers would have fallen at around the 38; and 1st and 20 would then be 2nd and 8 ... instead of 2nd and 16 ... because Reeder could not get into position or make the play.

That's my analysis of THAT ONE PLAY, which I have viewed half-a-dozen times, and I didn't even mention several relevant points, such as the coverage (the Rams rushed only three and were playing zone).

I don't believe for a second that the un-named individuals putting-out these grades, spend that much time and effort doing their analysis.

That is the play I am referring to in my post :)

You just did a hell of a better job explaining it.

Plus there were other plays where Reeder just was not in the right position to make a tackle on Henry.

However, I will credit Reeder with 3 excellent plays that inflated Reeder's overall grade by way too much.
 
1st half was full of stupid.... until that awesome GL stuff series.

2nd half Rams got down to business; ain't no way Cooper Rush beating us.

He lacks that quick twitch movement in short spaces. Dolac has that. Hopefully he starts getting more snaps.
