Rams' Baker Mayfield: 'I'm A Starting QB!' Which Teams Agree?

Wherever Baker goes, I hope he gets a great deal so we can salvage a 3rd round comp pick in 2024. Hell if his signing produces that, we'd have 4 picks in the first three rounds. Of course the polar ice would completely melt and earth would
spin off it's axis.

I know Stafford is older, and gets dinged like every othe QB, but I don't think he was THAT hurt last year, - I believe McVay took a look at the Oline, and just shut him down.

As has been said multiple times, fix the Oline and/or suffer less injuries, and Staff's good for at least another 3 years.
Which is by way of saying I am not interested at all in Mayfield - think he's a good guy, and a bit of a lightning rod for the press (sometimes deserved). but he showed the same inconsistencies he's always shown, and he ain't backing up for less tha $8-10M imo, which can be better spent elsewhere.

Yes I do. Or to soften that a bit - they bent the truth by keeping him in concussion protocol way longer than necessary.
And I also think a there are a myriad of degrees in severity of spinal contusions.

Looking at his play style both physically and mentally.....then seeing him come in without much practice and play well most likely means he would be the best QB2 the Rams could ever ask for.....since coming in without much practice or notice is what a QB2 is for...................but the Rams can't afford him.

I wouldn't call it fan delusion. Imo, fan delusion would be that we fix the oline in one off-season and we ride with Stafford for 4-5 more years. Facts are, the oline NEEDS to be fixed in order to keep Staff playing, but since nothing is guaranteed, putting all our chips in on fixing the oline to protect a very banged up veteran qb in one off-season with little draft capital and even less cap...if I'm Bakers agent, I would have a serious discussion with McVay and Les and ask if they want Baker to take over for Staff at some point in the near future. This team is his best opportunity for his future, IMO.

Stafford's longevity will hinge on McVay's philosophy and the Rams ability to run the ball.

If they can put him in position to throw 25 passes a game, looking for 3 or 4 big plays and being able to put together big drives when needed, in support of a great running attack, there is no reason why he couldn't play out his contract.

If McVay wants to throw it or has to throw it 35-40 times a game, then he will be cooked in 2 yrs or less.

I like mayfield as our back up. I do not want him as our QB1 after Stafford. He will always disapoint in the long run.

I'll agree with 2017 with the oline, but I contribute no injuries to the oline success of 2020. Actually health has been our success since McVay has been here when it comes to the oline. Which I understand, shit happens, but when it happens, it exposes our lack of depth, and thsts all we really have to rely on atm. Right now allen and boom look more like liabilities than starters we can rely on, Hav is getting up there in age, people want Edward's gone (don't know why), and Jackson who looked very good has blood clot issues. Lots of question marks.

In regards to this yr, no team can lose 7 OL by mid-season and survive. No team has enough depth behind their top 7 to field 4 more starting OL. Teams d8bt even carry more than 9 OL on their active roster.

He isn't going to get more than a backup offer.. but there are teams where as a 2nd stringer he might have a better chance of playing.

To say I'm concerned about Stafford's health is an understatement. There is no way I see him playing 3 more years. He will be lucky to finish 2023. He is one concussion from being a career ender. But equally disturbing is his chronic tendonitis. It really showed last year with poorly thrown deep passes.

If Mayfield moves on, IMO the Rams will be shopping for a new QB next year. IMO no more 1 year rental retreads. Without a good QB2 this team is really gambling on Stafford's health this year. That IMO is a poor bet when you have options to mitigating it going into the season.

The line was actually blocking pretty well for Baker near the end of the year and he still only cracked over 80 QBR once, and that was against the Broncos. We did whatever we wanted against them that week for some reason. Bakers a real nice back up, but, I would not be terribly excited about him being the starter going forward after Staff. Hopefully, Hooker falls to the 4th or something and we nab him. Not holding my breath though.

In 2018, the Rams o-line succeeded together, finishing sixth in PFF’s o-line rankings.
