Leonard Floyd needs to beat whoever is lining up at LT (McKlivitz, Moore) early. This will force the 49ers to use Kittle in pass protection, making him much less of a factor as a receiver.

If I remember correctly (usually no better than a 60-40% proposition), the Niners were without both their starting-OTs is the Week 18 OT-loss last season. Believe it was McKivitz and Compton at tackle.

One thing with Floyd is we don't know how healthy he is. He played through pain last season and might be doing it again. But if he's healthy I'd give him some looks on the blindside rush. We have some other guys who can handle strong side duties like Lewis.

Matchups are always a key. Getting the right guy on the right guy at the right moment might be the difference.

Now mention why the Rams got Bobby Wagner.
Answer: Beating the Niners
After the Rams MNF win it will be a story somewhere. Possibly Jourdan will be one of them. But Wagner has to make his presence felt and be tops in tackles with a sack. A pick will be icing.

In the past they always took advantage of our super weak ILB corps.
They no longer have that advantage.
Not saying they do not match up well, just not as well as they used to.
Our ILBs help us for sure in this matchup.

But the reason they match up well is their defense tends to limit our offense and Shanny tends to put them in favorable matchups offensively. Schematically he's the best IMO.

Now I need to go wash my fingers.

We need to see what we have on Floyd. Not sure if he is still healing but his edge pressure has been easily pushed outside.

What are our opponents' time to throwing a pass? That will be a good indicator. I'd guess Rams are top 5 as holding it longer is a disaster against us.
That was AD's comment. The opposing QB's are throwing the ball much faster than they did last year. Yes that's not the case with every team but it seems to be happening against the Rams.

The key is for whoever is playing edge opposite Floyd they must be impactful. Neither one has shown they are the starting edge they need. Time to start McKinley on the LOS with Hollins behind him. Lewis' lack of speed is really apparent. His one sack was a coverage sack. Hollins is decent in coverage and can provide that 5th blitzing LB without needing to weaken the run defense using Wagner or Jones. McKinley is an experienced pass rusher with 20 sacks, and 53 QB hits in his career that was derailed by injury. He's fine now physically and has stated that he's matured in his game, i.e. better prepared mentally, physically, and technically.

They signed Takkarist McKinley for a reason. IMO they signed him as an option to Lewis who hasn't played badly but only on a backup level and not the starter they hoped for.

See this is the problem with reporters today. They do zero investigative journalism.
I think the Rams are either no.2 or 3 when it comes to how long the opposing team holds on to the ball. I'll have to find the stat
