Where was this version of Avila last season. Makes me concerned what he's gonna look like if they end up paying him.
In fairness I feel Avila was not 100% last season. He is one of the few Rams that can actually get physical. I was very pleased the way he played and I hope they run off his ass many times playing the Giants.

Some what unfair, they allowed one return to begin the second half to Samuel that was an outlier, overall I feel the coverage units were better including the punt coverage team. However, it only takes one long kickoff and punt return in a game that can make a difference, so like many other areas, it needs to be better.

He wasn’t playing at full strength. Hes also allowed to get better, contract year or not. He’s never given me “Perform for the payday” vibes.

Their other return was brought out to the 31 yard line. Still not great. But it's only 1 game. Hopefully it evens out throughout the season. I thought it was interesting that the Giants and Rams are polar opposites. It could be another rough day for the return team.

Harbaugh was a special team coordinator before becoming a Head Coach. Overall, I was happy with how Ventrone's unit defended the punt returns so hopefully, against the Giants they can just hold serve.

And how do you explain the previous season. I suppose we can say it was related to the abortion of a decision to move him to Center. But no matter how you slice this thing the fact is he's finally playing up to his talent in his contract season. Imagine that.

First thing I noticed was the definition in his arms. He's not just another big strong kid anymore. Avila has been putting in some work.

I still like him, he was excellent in his first season and I love his size. If it were me and he stays healthy this year I would probably keep him, but who knows what going to happen beyond this season?

Avila has been solid since he's gotten here with a slight regression in 2024. I'm not sure where this is coming from.

Avila had a good rook season. Then in his second season the good idea fairy bullshite struck, and they tried to move him to Center, where he wasn't the same after he went back to Guard. Then last season he was mid as fuck, at best.

Assuming he finishes this season the way he played in game one, which was one of the few bright spots on this team, I would say it is perfectly appropriate to consider whether it's wise to pay him a boatload of cash.

He's fought injuries last couple seasons. After the failed center experiment he tore his MCL in 2024 and I think powered through that rest of season once he came back and last year he was fighting ankle issue most of the season if my memory serves me correct. Maybe a shoulder issue too? Hopefully he can stay healthy the whole season so we can get a picture of what he can do before a decision has to be made.
