But players like Greedy had enough flaws I suspect that the Rams figured they could get a player to fit their system as good tomorrow, with another nice pick too.

(n) So what you’re saying is: the Rams could have gotten Greedy, but instead decided to get greedy and get extra picks? Got it!(y)

Yes, yes it is.

.

Except it's not. This is a team built to win right now. They're losing a ton of starters next year to free agency. What they need are immediate contributors for a push to win it all before we go to the new stadium. We redshirted our entire draft last year, we're going to do the same this year.

The 31 pick has an approximate 54% chance of turning into a starter. Where they currently sit in the 2nd, that number drops to 41%. The 3rd rounder they picked up, only a 35%. You accumulate picks like this if you're just having to hope and pray you find a diamond and get lightning.

Grabbing a bunch of players who you're going to redshirt again isn't going to facilitate the goal that this team is designed to win right now. Personally, I like what the Steelers did. They're in much the same boat we are (they're designed to win right now, and the window is short). They got aggressive, moved up, and got a guy to help put them over the edge now, not picked up an extra dude who might even make the 53 man roster.

The Rams see themselves as in it to win every season, or nearly so. That means they have to keep the pipeline going.

In terms of the third they picked up being a longshot or not immediately useful - In the last 3 seasons the Rams have picked up Johnnie Johnson - a very nice safety who contributed a lot his rookie season; Kupp, arguably their best receiver who contributed a lot his rookie season; and Noteboom, who was their top OL backup his rookie season and is slated to replace Saffold this season. Recent history shows the current coaching staff and Snead knowing what players in that range will help the team.

Assuming that the players they felt really stood out were gone by #31 (based on their comments, a safe assumption) this move should help them.

I understand the initial disappointment in not getting a stud at R1.31 but what do you think contributes to the starter success %s in R2 and R3 that you provided. It’s selecting the right players into the right positions and coaching them up for success. It remains to be seen but I believe the Rams have a very good chance of manuevering thru the R2 and R3 available and finding 3 2029 or 3030 starters. That’s much better than having one stud starter from a draft.

Gd iPhone should read 2019 or 2020 starters.
