Los Angeles Rams already receiving calls for pick #31 in 2019 NFL Draft

Is there a strong possibility for the Rams to trade out of the first round all together?
By Sosa Kremenjas Apr 25, 2019

Well, the inevitable has arrived. According to Adam Schefter, the Los Angeles Rams have already received calls for the 31st pick in the 2019 NFL Draft from numerous interested teams:

At No. 31, the Rams already have received calls from teams interested in trading into the back of the first round, per sources. Teams value getting the fifth-year option in the contract’s of first-round picks, and the back of the draft tonight is likely to be fluid and busy.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 25, 2019
This should come as a shock to nobody as General Manager Les Snead has always been a player when it comes to draft-day trades. Like Schefter mentioned, teams value the fifth-year option on rookie contracts, and only first-round picks have the option on their contracts.

What does this mean for the Rams?

Well, it means their draft will suddenly include more players — if they trade back. The Rams currently lack a second-round pick due to the trade for CB Marcus Peters last offseason, though it’s a possibility they could recoup that pick (or something later) if the decision to trade back comes to fruition.

As it stands, here’s the Rams’ current crop of draft selections:

2019 NFL Draft LA Rams Order

Rd
# Rd# Pick
1 31 31 Rams pick
3 94 30 Rams pick
3 99 35 Comp pick
4 133 31 Rams pick
5 169 31 Rams pick
6 203 31 Rams pick
7 245 31 Rams pick
If history is any indication, don’t expect the Rams to stay put and make a draft selection tonight. Happy draft day!

UPDATE:

Teams I’m told have shown the most interest in trading down: #Jets (3), #Lions (8), #Dolphins (13), #Seahawks (21/29), #Rams (31).

Probably waste 2 hours tonight waiting for the Rams to pick , and then they will trade it away. I'm fine with that

Regardless of the Rams picking tonight or not, I’m drinking while watching the draft. Got the day off of work tomorrow so beer will be flowing. (y)

At 31 there is only 1 or 2 players I would take . I'm fine with the trade down for more picks , snead has made some great picks lately and I trust him.

I really like the center from nc state , and ferrel from Clemson if they last till 31.

There will be a starting caliber player for the OL or DL sitting there at 31. My hope is for Dexter Lawrence but Snead will do what is best for the Rams.

Unless something strange happens and I am sure it will. We will have many options at 31. So unless we love someone who is there @31 we will have the opportunity to pick up a pick and grab from a deep list at desired positions of need.

Players that could be available in the 2nd
Obviously some will be gone some don't fit perfectly but for everyone that isn't there another desired player may be.
This draft has 3+ strong rounds of talent that could bring a starter and some great depth.

This sounds like a smokescreen to me to get the would-be interested teams to make stronger offers (to ward off the other "interested" teams).
But I'll play along - I'm good if it's the Jets. Third pick in the 2nd round and maybe Third pick in the 3rd? That's early enough to get 2 really good players, with one being a guy we would have taken at 31 anyway.

We're picking so late in the third (both times), I could honestly see a trade down scenario where we don't pick up any additional picks but gain a second and simply move up in the third... or we'd definitely have to give back some late draft capital to make an extra pick in the mid rounds worth it for trade partners.

I have no idea what the Rams will do...but my mind still says LB...even with Matthews signing on for 2 years. He's getting up in age and no longer an every down player.

I think it would be great to go LB and allow him to come up under Matthews, Littleton, and crew.

My other thought is to beef up OLine because we know holes are coming next year!

So what would you take to trade down?

Chart value?

Take Denver for instance - who may want to come up.

Rams pick 31 is worth 600

Denver pick 41 is worth 490

110 points is basically a late late 3rd

Denver doesn’t have a late late third. To make it work - it could be something like

31 and 99 (704) for 41 and 71 (725)

The Rams win this trade via the chart but - depending on who is there at 31 - I don’t like it.

Cleveland may be a good trading partner. They may want to move up to get their pick of CB's at 31, trade picks 49 & 80 to do so. Picking at 49, 80, 94 & 99 would be a very good couple of days for the Rams, lots of ways that could go.
Suppose a question may be how far do the Rams want to trade down.

I'm not going to even turn the draft on till about 10 because I know we'll be picking around 11 o'clock.

I'm extremely Ramcentric.

If it ain't the Rams ....

they suck.:cautious:
