Sounds like youre talking character or red flag issues. He's talking draft grades. The way I read that is Walsh would have absolutely gone ape shit on this trend in the last few years of first round grades. That's not totally true.
When you pick, say, Johnny Manziel in the 1st round because some bum on the street told the owner to draft him, that's a huge problem. They should have known he was a cokehead and didn't give a fuck about football, yet they wasted a 1st round pick on him. He shouldn't have even been drafted at all. They could have taken a good player there.
And it's not that he crashed and burned, he took down their best player with him in Josh Gordon. A double whammy.
.
Well, in Manziel's case his play was the issue. So the Walsh comment is correct. Had he played like Tom Brady there would not have been any issues.
Yeah but if the player they picked is not better than 15 other players - I would take one of the other 15 players based on BPA.In other words, here on the board, they would be apoplectic about Walsh selecting a Division 2 WR from a HBCU mid 1st Round in 1985, when he "COULD HAVE" had him late 1st while picking up Capital.
Otherwise known as FAFO
Locally known as, want Bobby Wagner get Isaiah Pead.
Yeah, agree, but the quote was if the guy can play. Manziel couldn't play for the reasons you state. So not sure why you even use him as an exampleNo, the issue was they shouldn't have drafted him at all. And they should have known that going in.
This wasn't a case of they picked a player and he didn't work out, it was a case of a player that should never have been drafted and they still picked him, in the 1st.

Mike Tannenbaum liking the selection is the only thing that gives me pause about the decision.
Imo its only an issue if you plan on starting the qb year 1. We don't so to me its a non factor. Also the way we see him process things the mental side of thi gs it makes him that much more impressive. My only issue with Simpson is the number of starts. If indeed it’s 2 years that would be 15 starts in 7 years.
The whole League (and a substantial portion of Ram fans) are freakin TF out because they dont like the player or pick. This pick will prove to be a "master stroke" by Les, in time. Bet the Steelers wish they'd drafted Ben's replacement while Ben had 2 years left. They're STILL chasin it.Imo its only an issue if you plan on starting the qb year 1. I hope you're right. The whole League (and a substantial portion of Ram fans) are freakin TF out because they dont like the player or pick. The Green Bay model has proven to work if the right player is selected, and in my opinion we got the right guy.
Without a doubt. And I even suspect I will be one of Simpsons harshest critics.I hope you're right.
But if you are wrong (we will know after 3 or 4 years) - will you be eating crow like I will be eating crow if I am wrong.
I am eating crow if I am wrong. You should eat crow if you are wrong.I said we should draft him; said McVay would love the kid; said he was a better QB than most coming out next year; and that he has elite qualities; as well as limited starting experience. I see the last as also a plus because he has not maxed out his abilities. I based that on what I saw and read
If he doesn’t work out why should I or anyone who supported picking him eat crow.? We were right according to the Rams who picked him 13th. The rest is in their and his hands. So, yes I feel confident he is going to exceed your expectations but let’s face it none of us has a crystal ball for any of the prospects many of whom will flame out in the NFL
I guess I don't get why it matters. Most of us will be right and wrong in our opinions over time. Let's just hope he's right and move on. There's almost nothing more boring than "I told you so".I hope you're right.
But if you are wrong (we will know after 3 or 4 years) - will you be eating crow like I will be eating crow if I am wrong.
But....why? Shouldn't we all just be rooting for whomever is wearing the Rams uniform?? I can promise ya'll that I won't remember who liked or didn't like the pick in 3 weeks much less 3 years....I am eating crow if I am wrong. You should eat crow if you are wrong.
That's just fair since we are opposite sides of the spectrum.
