Another thing about the interview with Les & Sean regarding posture which of course is over analyzing and subjective is that when Sean said he had a conversation today with Matthew regarding the pick, maybe he wanted it to go better for a lot of reasons not worth guessing even more about.
Or McVay announces his retirement tomorrow over the pick - just kidding

Well, all Simpson did was play like the best QB in the country with them when he was healthy despite an unusual high level of drops, poor running, and poor blocking. I know here on the board, people were excited about him being a top pick in the first half of the college year. Had he stayed healthy, he likely isn't sitting there at 13.

And when he was injured, his team picked up the slack. His wide receivers stepped up, his defensive unit stepped up, and his offensive line stepped up.

Will he have a better supporting cast in the NFL? Absolutely. Will he have a better running game with us? Absolutely. But I will push back that Simpson had nothing, especially not when he was injured. His receivers all stepped up big-time in those spots, or Alabama wouldn't be in the conversation of the playoffs.

Saying that Simpson was carrying the whole team to victories is wrong, and you don't have to say he did to prop him up.

What concerns me is the poor body language McVay had in the presser. I’ve never seen him look like that except for the NFC Championship loss.

As we’ve all said numerous times, I just don’t understand why we wouldn’t try to build a more complete roster with that high value pick. Even if we traded back and picked him later, that would’ve felt better.

Snead’s 1st round picks have been very hit or miss imo.

Let’s hope he nails the rest of the draft. Can’t get any worse…right?

To me the only thing that matters is does McVay want Simpson. If he does then great. If it's shoved down his throat then it's not good.

Very true and thats easy to forget......but, that doesn't change Simpson at 13 is viewed as a reach.
5 years from now people may be saying they cant believe 12 teams passed on him.....or, he could be a punchline.
Those are the ONLY 2 outcomes?

No middle ground?

I'm chuckling at the people posting on Twitter about a lack of enthusiasm at the press conference. The Rams told Stafford before the draft that they were taking Simpson. So we know for a fact that this wasn't a situation where they panicked or were forced to draft a guy they didn't really want because the players they wanted were off the board. For better or worse, Simpson was the guy. I think it'll prove to be for the better.

Lamar Jackson started for 3 years in college. He played in a ton of games. He won the Heisman and almost won it again. He’s in a different stratosphere than Simpson athletically. And Lamar went 30th!!! Not 13th.
Who cares if Lamar went 30th? If he went 13th, people would still be saying he was a steal.

People saying McVay didn't looked pissed tf off are LYING to themselves. Why though? Was he unhappy they had to take Simpson, or was he unhappy with all the questions about Stafford, etc.? Wtf does he expect to get asked when you make a pick like that?
Something happened, I'm not sure with all the reporting coming out about Rams wanting Simpson, McVay's thumbprints are always on the 1st round picks, telling Stafford they're picking Simpson jives with how pissed he is but something happened.

I wanna know what.

Sooooo much angst!!!

Anyway.. not the move I would’ve made, but.. so what?

Jimmy G may retire.. finding QBs is hard!

We won’t know SHIT about this pick, most likely, for a couple of years.

There are absolutely other directions to go.. but I get it.

Looking forward to the rest of the draft. I hope they can make some moves to end up with a 4th & 5th.. package those 7s and six with a trade down ir two.

I see the optimism, and he didn't have the team around him like Indiana or Miami, but it's not like Alabama had nobody but Simpson. That, I have to push against. The receivers dropped a lot of passes, but they're all talented receivers aside from that who produced a lot of yards and touchdowns against top opponents.

Alabama was a good team this year, receivers and O-line included. They would not have made the College Playoffs if they weren't stacked.
This is true. Germie Bernard is a good WR. Williams is an elite athlete. Unfortunately, he cannot catch the football with any consistency. Horton and Brooks were streaky but talented. Cuevas was a good TE before he got injured. So there were weapons. The OL was inconsistent. The HBs were pretty terrible and injured. It wasn't a terrible supporting cast, but it wasn't the sort of supporting cast people would expect of Alabama.
