What the hell does Nick Saban know.
People are completely misunderstanding Saban and Orlovsky’s analysis. They are saying the Rams are the perfect fit for Simpson. That this is the best possible landing spot for him. He gets to learn from McVay and Stafford.

That’s a completely different argument than “this is a great pick for the Rams”!! Those are 2 completely different things!!

Well, I did not state he had no help. I stated the abnormal issues he faced that most Bama QB's don't face. The top QB in the draft didn't face many of these issues either. Regardless of what you think of Simpson, he played his ass off until he got banged up. He was considered the potential #1 pick in the draft prior even with some of these issues. Clearly he did not carry the team by himself, but they also let him down in several areas they do not typically. Especially with the level of talent at WR. Williams took a huge step back. From the cover of College Football 26 to leading the FBS in drops. That is a big dip.

Williams took a huge step back, and the drops are very concerning, but ultimately, he could play himself back into contention for a first-round pick. Bernard took a big step forward, and I hope we draft him to put him with Simpson. Horton and Brooks are good, Cuevas is solid, the offensive line did have talent, even if it was inconsistent.

He did not have Alabama's typical excellent supporting cast...but while he was responsible for carrying the team at the beginning, they had to pick him up when he was injured.

We can't just forget the back-half of the season. The start was #2 overall worthy (I'd have still taken Mendoza #1; he was just that good, even with his supporting cast.); the climax and ending was bad, not even close to his start, and his team helped him a lot and stepped up to the plate to get into the Playoffs.

Both things can be true, and I apologize if I've put words in your mouth.

This is true. Germie Bernard is a good WR. Williams is an elite athlete. Unfortunately, he cannot catch the football with any consistency. Horton and Brooks were streaky but talented. Cuevas was a good TE before he got injured. So there were weapons. The OL was inconsistent. The HBs were pretty terrible and injured. It wasn't a terrible supporting cast, but it wasn't the sort of supporting cast people would expect of Alabama.
Saw a stat I'll have to look for the tweet again but among the CFP teams they had the most drops the worst run blocking grade and worst ypc. Anybody who watched them play could see there was no help from the OL and skill positions. BTW I like Cuevas as a TE target later in the draft.

100% bullshit.. nothing was said about 'before the draft.' Only that he was informed 'today'
All the smoke leading up to the draft about rams picking Simpson. Not signing Jimmy G. You can’t tell me this scenario wasn’t discussed and known to be a real option (to McVay, Stafford, etc)

Hmmm - smiling and really ebullient about the picks.

And then this pressor - um not smiling and not very ebullient.

That's not a good sign.
I couldn't quite hear the exact wording of the question... something about "tell us about the conversation today with Stafford. "

McVay looked stone faced and said flatly, "I'll keep that between us."

Human nature to think Stafford wouldn't be thrilled with this pick. But at least the Rams showed him the respect and courtesy of telling him beforehand about the pick.

Stafford's a competitor, and yeah maybe he was unhappy to hear the Rams were drafting his replacement.

I'm sure McVay will make clear that Stafford is welcome to stay for both 2026 and 2027. But even Stafford knows Father Time is undefeated. I'm sure Stafford will get over it and be diplomatic about it when asked.

I'd agree that McVay seemed a bit subdued. But to me, that's an understandable move to show respect to Stafford. From all accounts, McVay fell in love with Simpson's tape.

This does make me wonder if McVay just knew that he didn't want to make Snead look like a liar to the kid and his family, and so he "went along" with the pick, as much as he didn't like it.
But who knows?
I hope you are not serious. This isn’t the 5th grade playground.

If Snead felt pressure (ridiculous thought) he’d just keep trading back and take him at end of 1st if Simpson was still there.
