I have done some of this and I saw them doing it similarly until the Alabama oline fell apart and I never saw similar play from Purdys Oline. It's part of why I'm still baffled Proctor was a 1st round pick. He wasnt good at all.I went back and watched Simpson highlights and then Purdy highlights from his senior year.
Lots of similarities.. in size and play style.
What I think I saw.. and I'd love to hear from anyone else who's done this exercise.. Was Purdy seemed a little more sure of himself and more confident in the pocket.. which might be a product of playing many more college games. It wasn't a huge difference, but that's what I think I was watching.
Simpson seems just a tad more explosive as a runner.. and Simpson ABSOLUTELY has more gas in his arm than Purdy.
As many have pointed out.. Simpson is an outlier in the number of starts he made. That will be THE question.. can he take that next step to slow down a little more. If he can? All the throws are there.. all the mechanics are there.. and McVay will have a QB he can design an occasional run for.
Okay, I'm saying this without looking at Purdy's college tape but my guess is he had an oline that held up quite a bit more.I went back and watched Simpson highlights and then Purdy highlights from his senior year.

Purdy was incredibly efficient, intelligent, and accurate in the short to intermediate range. I do think there's a lot of similarities there with how advanced their footwork and throwing mechanics were as prospects, and they both routinely threw with anticipation you rarely ever see from college QBs.I went back and watched Simpson highlights and then Purdy highlights from his senior year.

I think before the draft I severely underestimated how strong Simpson's arm is with the amount of zip he can put on those intermediate balls and how he can flick it 60+ yards down the field off platform with pressure in his face. Unfortunately, so far his downfield accuracy has been very scattershot with a lot of overthrows but when he can start to dial those passes in I think he'll be in that rare air of NFL QBs that can make literally any throw in the playbook.
Could be. We'll see what a few years dialed in an NFL strength and conditioning program does for him before he hits the field again.I believe part of the accuracy breakdown on deep throws is the fact that he doesn't have the arm strength, everything has to be right from the feet to the torso, to the follow through.

Good call to you and others that made that prediction. It isn't always easy trying to pinpoint who the Rams will actually draft. We now know they pick up prospects Old School movie style to interview them later at a secret location.I would just like to take this moment to point out that I called the Simpson pick.
Although I fell in love with Omar Cooper Jr. (after a trade down), I thought the smart move by a well run organization would be a QB of the future. The upside of this pick hitting can not be overstated.

Early Draft Day 2026 Best Guesses
McCoy & Tyson are available due to injury history, I am leaving them there and dealing with the regret if they pan out. @Memphis Ram your 12 players make it very tough @13, If you have injury concerns like I do it leaves in my eyes this group as my top 3 Great question and top 12 Lemon...www.ramsondemand.com

Looking at that same tape again I was specifically looking at his footwork. He throws one 60 yds. into the end zone while standing flat-footed. I think it's the third clip.I believe part of the accuracy breakdown on deep throws is the fact that he doesn't have the arm strength, everything has to be right from the feet to the torso, to the follow through.
