They didn't trade down because AZ might jump them or they had no offers, whatever
Thats another possibility I haven't seen mentioned too much..what if McVay wanted to trade back a few spots to grab Simpson and Snead didn't want to risk it because of AZ..or vise versa. A lot of layers and I doubt we'll ever know.

Yep Adam Schefter pretty much confirmed all this on McAfee’s show. Said our front office didn’t think this draft contained many blue chippers and was down talent wise. He said we wanted to trade back for more picks and try and snag Simpson somewhere in the 20s but there were no takers. Also said the team considered Lemon and Ioane at 13 but we just weren’t in love with either.
Man, this was my exact feeling on the draft. I wasn't in Love with anyone. I checked out about 3 weeks ago in even looking at players.

People keep saying we could have given Stafford an elite player for immediate impact. No, we couldn't have. The elite players were gone by pick 5 or so.

I don’t think the Rams draft Simpson unless Stafford told them he’s done in a year or two max, pending health.

If the Rams thought they had 3 more seasons of Stafford… they would have picked a player at 13.

I’d argue it might be better than 50% this is his final season.

Probably if Tyson was there they may have went that way. He had elite traits.

He did, with an atrocious injury history. They may have been interested in him if he fell, but I'm skeptical. You don't call your QBs and tell them you're drafting another one unless you're pretty damn sure that's what you're gonna do. Simpson looks like Plan A.

I am guessing the conversation was more along the lines of that there is good chance we draft Simpson. Can't guarantee that if you don't yet know how the draft falls.

Sure, that's possible. But remember, they also didn't know if Tyson would fall due to his medicals. So to say there's a good chance we draft Simpson knowing that there was also a decent chance Tyson fell, it still smacks of the QB being Plan A.

Add in all of the reports, interviews, and evidence and almost all signs point to them executing Plan A.

I think in this instance, you are more concerned with posting & venting, rather than actually reading the posts.
No I'm reading them, I'm just responding a way you don't like. I keep getting responses because I don't agree with how you view things. I've even said plenty of times that its ok to think that way if you like, I'm not there. We just have folks that if you question anything the organization did, you basically get pilfered with responses trying to convince you otherwise. Its actually funny to see for me. I've said plenty of times, I'm always down for discussing anything Rams. Didn't say you'd always like it :laugh4:

Looks like the folks who claimed that Simpson had never even had a conversation with McVay were wrong:
The Rams wanted to keep their interest in Ty Simpson close to the vest before the NFL draft, so the Alabama quarterback kept his meeting with coach Sean McVay "private," he said Monday in an interview with Ian Fitzsimmons on ESPN Radio's "Amber & Ian."

The Rams drafted Simpson, Matthew Stafford's likely successor, with the 13th overall pick Thursday night.

"We tried to keep this under wraps as long as we could," Simpson said in Monday's interview. "It was something to where I knew they were interested, but they wanted to make it private and didn't want people to know that they were interested.

"So I had some secret meetings with Coach McVay and I just was trying to be on script and do what everybody told me and not to tell anybody."

You DO know he came within an outrageous Contract offer from Las Vegas, which probably only required a 3rd year being added from moving possibly, don't you?
I’m not too sure that’s the case and there’s no way we can know. The more logical thing I had heard at the time was that a couple teams were floating potential offers for Stafford and he met with Brady. I’m sure his agent was trying to gin up offers to get the Rams to up theirs but it sounded at the time Stafford never really seriously considered the Raiduhs - especially considering that O-line. I don’t think he wanted to get killed.

I think it is a fact that the Rams weren't happy with QB2 until Simpson was brought aboard. They were definitely not happy with Bennett alone for that role.

So maybe they wanted Bennett to have competition. But I took McVay's comments that they were not real happy with him. Doesn't mean he can't come in camp and kick ass. He did that, rose to competition every time at Georgia. So I wouldn't rule him out for QB2. But chances are Simpson is the one they want in that role.

Which means the Rams do see him as advanced enough mentally to be our backup. And I don't doubt that they are wrong on that. Backups, as I keep saying, are kind of a low bar around the league. But the moment they got Simpson the Jimmy storyline was done. McVay was straight up content after that in how he answered that question, whereas before he was saying the vet was necessary.
I get not being happy with Stetson as a backup. Only McVay and company know what he's shown behind the scenes. The key for Simpson to be a successful draft pick is to beat out Bennett for the QB2 as soon as possible but to also elevate further into a quality QB1. That's where I'm iffy, is the QB1 part. I could be wrong, I could be right, who the hell really knows. Now if Bennett elevates his game somehow and keeps Simpson at QB3, I'll be worried for Simpson. Could Bennett do so well he makes the Rams reconsider their QB approach? I'm not banking on it, but it would be crazy and totally unexpected to many if that happened. I agree with you that the Rams rather have Simpson usurp Bennett as the QB2 as they invested a pretty high pick for him. Also definitely agree with Jimmy G chapter pretty much closed for now. At some point the Rams were going to have to either commit to a vet or take a chance on a rookie. Lastly, I'd like to thank you for actually having a response where it isn't put down like you're offended but rather having a conversation. Tough crowd if you don't necessarily like the Simpson pick. Let's hope I'm way off on this one.

Yeah there's always layers we never know about. AZ could have also been full of it or some other team could have had eyes on Simpson or the magic 8 ball told Snead to draft Simpson, but we'll never know :laugh4:

I fuckin laughed out loud at the he didn't want to get killed comment :laugh4::laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:

lol nothing you said makes sense for the discussion. I understand you are angry and annoyed at the pick. I hope you eventually get past that. For now, seems blinders are on.

I’ve moved on myself already. I’m more interested the why (based on McSnead and their scouts comments) and how it impacts the future. What I thought before of Simpson didn’t matter anymore. He’s a Ram - I’m rooting the dude. Even though I think he has a tough road ahead. But if McVay is happy, I’m happy.

Lmao. The folks who claimed? It was Simpson himself who claimed this in a post draft interview. People were just directly quoting Simpson’s own words. You act like people just made it up. The whole reason it became a story because it came from Simpson’s own mouth.

I remember we saw that video a few weeks ago when someone asked McVay about Simpson, and he pivoted STRAIGHT to Mendoza. I remember going, "hmmmmm."

I mean, if THIS is the case the Simpson pick makes COMPLETE sense. Here I am, liking the pick even if Stafford stays three, OR FOUR years. LOL, your theory, CGI, makes way more sense.
