Exactly what was I wrong about?
I've never seen McVay so stoic. He's usually geeked up during the draft, and my other comments are true.

Telling me I'm wrong when I said I was the one who originally thought McVay's demeanor was out of respect for Stafford?
Really?
That's weird.
I'm guessing you are a body language expert :-)

When you have an MVP, Super Bowl-winning QB in your building, who has elevated your entire franchise, it's probably best not to start whooping and hollering with glee in front of the press. Perhaps, as the leader of his team, McVay should think about shit like that before he does a press conference. Oh, wait a minute, he fucking did! Phew!

R1.13 as it played out was a tough spot for the Rams. Other than Bain and Lemon, I’m not sure I would’ve been excited about anybody at 13. I sure hope they tried to trade down to get an extra high pick, but that’s water under the bridge. Hindsight all the signs were pointing to the Rams having strong interest in Simpson. And I think once Snead sets his mind on a player, he doesn’t care about any draft value charts. McVays reaction was a little alarming to say the least. But I’m gonna wait to judge until if I see the Rams have a strategy for the rest of the draft that’s a bit more uplifting.
Yeah I feel like the guys they liked left the board, trades didn't work out, and taking Simpson was way down their priority list but it's where they landed. That might've been McVay's frustration?

And sometime soon we'll see McVay on the mic and he'll point out that the Rams have 2 young QB's (yeah I know how old Stetson is) to learn behind one of the best the game has seen. And he'll be polite to all 3 and measured in his tone and delivery. And people will still lose their marbles over it :D

The media is all over this pick. Most like the pick. A LOT are confused by Mcvay's reaction to it, lol.

Lots of things to unpack with this pick. At first I was like "poop", but after a night to sleep on it:
- I too was hoping they'd trade down, but teh Jets picked at #16. They have GENO SMITH penciled in as QB1. You think they wouldn't take a swing at Simpson?? they sure would. (btw, the Cards picked Love at #3. Some had them taking Simpson at #3, and no one would've been shocked.) In fact, I think if we picked Sadiq they'd have been jumping for joy & picked Simpson at #16.
- If youd've gone back in time & told this board that we got the #2 QB in the entire draft, a possible Heisman candidate, fall to us at #13 AND we traded #29 for an All-Pro CB, we would ALL have been ecstatic & hailing the genius that is the McSnead team. iirc, almost everyone on this board had us packaging #13 & #29 to trade up to get a future QB, and now we've kept both picks & still got a future QB--and many of you here are whining about it? saying this is WORSE than losing to the Pats in the SB?? (which one btw lol) sheesh.
- McVay looks exactly like he did when we drafted Verse, as another poster has pointed out. In the business world, watching the presser & concluding that he's unhappy with the pick is what we call "climbing the ladder of assumptions" -- you don't like the pick, then see the video, and assume he's not happy with the pick either. For all we know, they both knew this would be the pick 6 weeks ago & just wanted to go home & go to bed after a few pre-celebratory beverages after dinner. Maybe McVay's toddler was sick & kept him up all night the night before, and/or maybe his wife keeps nagging him about female reporters. Point being, we have NO IDEA why he feels this way & anything else you see on teh socials is just click bait.
- Yes, Simpson is in a great position--but assuming that's somehow bad for the Rams is also a silly argument. Literally last year we were all hoping this would be the case, that we could draft a future QB who could sit behind 9 for a year or two & come out swinging in year 3. An ideal situation for Simpson is GOOD for the Rams. sheesh.
- This draft is FAR from being over. Chances are very good we still get a great #3 WR to complement Puka & Adams & our TEs. And/or a swing OT. And/or....
- Like I said above, the Cards picked Love at #3. Then teh Hawks got Price at #32. We really, really need an ILB corps with some serious speed & run D. But chances are good that we could still get a really good ILB at #61. If they maybe do a bit of trading, they could even move up to get J-Rod but there's a couple that could still be available at #61 (Golday?). If they do.... and we walk away with a future QB1, an All-Pro CB, a nice WR3 and an ILB after days 1 & 2, I will be very happy with McSnead -- and you should be too.

That is certainly possible but teams traded back so, if so, why didn't we trade up

It is ironic, perhaps, that Simpson went 13 and Lemon fell all the way to pick 20

Cooper, whom I also like, a lot, was close to falling out of round 1 entirely

There are lots of great WR prospects still available

I read somewhere he doesn't have arm strength ? Wtf. Short and no arm strength. Idk. I guess we will find out.

I don't think McVay and Snead were at odds. It's just not their modus operandi. They must of had all kinds of scenarios mapped out before the draft and this is how the cards played out. I subscribe to the theory that McVay didn't show enthusiasm out of respect for Stafford. But that's just my opinion.

I was ready to post about how I didn't like the pick because Simpson is a project with an injury history and limited physical attributes and the Rams should have drafted a player at 13 that could help now....

But I take it back.

I think McVay and Snead believe they may not get a draft pick this high again in the foreseeable future. They already got their needed corner by trading away their other first round pick. They know Stafford is going to retire in the near future and they need a successor. Their options for replacing Stafford are 1. Entice an established QB to jump ship and join the Rams (Burrow, cough cough) 2. Find a reclamation project like Darnold 3. Replace via the draft. I believe they are considering all three options and the Simpson pick satisfies one of these scenarios.

So yeah Simpson is project and a gamble at pick 13. But they need to get their options in order to address Stafford's eventual departure. And the pick at 13 was a bonus they could take a little gamble on. Maybe they get the next Bo Nix. Maybe Simpson is a bust. But they need a QB option in the draft and this was it.

Rams AGGRESSIVELY addressed what was, by far, their biggest problem last year before the draft.
The Rams still have a 2nd & 3rd rounder.
The fucking draft isn’t over…. And the Rams have crushed it in recent years.
People acting like the draft is finished, SMH.
