During the 2nd half of NCAA football, Ty Simpson was dealing with a lower back injury, cracked ribs, and elbow bursitis. This is the time when everyone was using this time to point out that Mendoza be better than Simpson.
Hopefully Stafford shows him how to be tougher and play thru that shit because that's how the NFL will be. Highly successful QBs learn to play thru injuries and not use it as an excuse for a slump. Disappointed that we are going the GB Love route but I get it. Would have rather gotten a player for this year's SB run but what's done is done.

Just noticed something.

Someone mentioned that the Rams should have traded down before selecting Simpson. However, in looking at the draft tracker, there were no trades for 7 spots between that Dolphins & Cowboys swap of picks and the Eagles move up for Lemon.

Maybe Kaydn Proctor being on the board was their only opportunity to move down.

Just a thought.

I wonder the same thing. Thinking they were hoping someone like Downs or Tyson dropped. When they didn't, then the idea of taking a potential future starting QB with a salary cap saving 5th year option became the best choice. I feel they want a WR, but they rated players like Lemon or Cooper as not much better than those that will be available in the 2nd round, so QB became the best option.
I don't think so. Lots of indications that this has been their plan for quite a while. But we may never know for sure.

Rams just did this to their first round pick.

Sorry but you're absolutely wrong I linked the pressers from 2024 and have watched other years pressers McVay is this way in those pressers every time. I linked 2024 because it was his only other 1st round selection. This is fans not liking the pick and convincing themselves something is wrong. I'm not sure what is so hard to figure out about the simple fact that if McVay doesn't want this QB he's not picked. So many people are insinuating that the Rams duo running the team is dumb and not working together. It just baffles me coming from Rams fans. Media and other teams fans I get but how a Rams fans think that McVay would get a QB forced on him by Snead is just amazing to me.

Exactly what was I wrong about?
I've never seen McVay so stoic. He's usually geeked up during the draft, and my other comments are true.

Telling me I'm wrong when I said I was the one who originally thought McVay's demeanor was out of respect for Stafford?
Really?
That's weird.

Ty Simpson is the worst pick in my almost 30 years of being a Rams fan. Awful in every way. HUGE reach at 13. You cannot tell me with Bain and Lemon and Sadiq on the board, nobody was willing to trade up for our pick.

Reaches happen. So do draft busts. And this was 13th overall. Not 1st overall. What makes it so egregious is that we are in win now mode, with a short window with Stafford. Simpson is not only is a reach, he won't even play. Not even in a rotational capacity. Skill position players you go off the board for would at least suit up. Heck, even if they only played STs, that is something we need badly. We also rarely pick this high. You need to maximize it. Simpson wasn't even generally seen as 1st rounder. I get the QB logic. If Simpson was even a prospect like Bo Nix or JJ McCarthy were viewed when they came out, it would be easier to swallow at 13.

We'll see how it turns out. I won't lose sleep over it. It's just sports and entertainment for us fans. We're not part of the organization. But man, I was so hype for this draft. That excitement was immediately destroyed. Talk about a buzz kill.

Snead is a middling GM. Lots of hits. But lots of misses as well. And he is awful at asset maximization. Reaches on players at the draft. Gives up way too much in trades for players (McDuffie). And in trades to move up the draft board (Fiske). Gives out too much money in contracts (Goff, Gurley). His biggest credit is the late round draft steals (Puka, Kupp) and ability to scour other teams' rosters for high-level contributors (Corbett, Dotson). But that level of granularity is a credit to the scouting staff, both pro level and collegiate level. Though I suppose the GM gets credit for who he brings in. Who knows if those scouts would still be here if the GMs changed. I do love his aggressiveness. But it feels like he is a truly average GM, with a 50-50 resume, being propped up by a Coach that has the ability to transform any decent roster into a contender. McVay paired with an actually elite GM like Howie Roseman likely sees us with another Super Bowl by now, at least, and at best pushing for Patriots-esque dynasty.

Could also be he knew for months that they were taking him earlier than he’d go, so it wasn’t like “Can’t believe this guy fell to us”…so way less excitement to be had

McVay doesn’t have final say. You can watch the footage of McVay and Snead interacting in the war room over recent years and it takes 2 seconds to see which one is making the final decisions. Does Snead respect McVay and his input? Absolutely. But Snead is the one making the call.
I doubt Snead would ever select a player McVay didn't want, particularly that high in the draft. My guess is that McVay was being subdued out of respect for Stafford and letting Les do all the rah-rah stuff. I even get a sense that they planned it out this way ahead of time. Sort of a good cop, bad cop act, in a way.

Lol.
Really?
He could still look at little happy about the pick.
And that little forced smile he executed was priceless.

Then you haven't watched any of his draft day recap pressers with Snead that they do after every day of every draft. I even linked two of them in this thread.

I hear we have some more picks coming up :-)

Go Rams!

The Rams say he will compete with Bennett for number two? what the hell? there was a good edge rusher available and several receivers who could start year one. They threw this pick away. But they often waste their best pick. I do not get it.

Any edge drafted was an auto starter over BY or Verse? hahaha

Sending you a hug, big man

Get out of the house. Walk the dog. Buy a dog. Feel the grass beneath your feet. Breathe in the fresh air. Or perhaps breathe into a brown paper bag :-)

Ty Simpson is tough, gifted and competitive, but he will have to work really hard to be our worst-ever pick in the last 30 years

If Snead is rank average, then you have not been watching closely enough

Trivia question: Was it Snead who picked Andre Dillard and Jalen Reagor back-to-back in the first round? BTW Justin Jefferson was still on the board in 2020, so perhaps Jalen was an even worse pick than even his play
:)

Everyone needs to calm down. “Rams wasted this first round pick when they’re so close to a Super Bowl.”

Guess what. Rams have been to two superbowls, won one, and were one win away from getting a third WITH ONE FIRST ROUND PICK IN 9 YEARS.

The sky is not falling.
Was this you looking out of your window this morning?

You guys do realize we are not privy to all the attempts to move up or down in the draft by Snead. We normally just know the end result of a pick. For all we know, Sneaf may have been killing himself to make several moves all night.

According to Shefter, they had made up their mind before the draft even began that that was their intent.

Again, I'm not losing sleep over it. It's just sports/entertainment as I said. But this appears to be a ridiculous waste of pick. Even if he has a great career, it's crazy asset allocation when we could have traded down with ease and still selected him.

Snead seems pretty average to me. His early picks have been average for many years now. Everett. Akers. Van Jefferson. Tutu. Ferguson? The trade up for Fiske was questionable in terms of the assets given to pick him + trade up for him. This pick was questionable as well. Again, he does get credit for the late round steals and unheralded free agents that contribute big. I think those are on scouting. But the GM does get credit for who he brings in. I am not saying he sucks. He has lots of hits, but also lots of misses. Average overall IMO propped up by an elite coach that that will compete with any roster. Look at McVay's face on this pick. It said a lot.

Andre Dillard and Jalen Reagor were both taken in the 20s. Not really comparable. Plus, they were skill position players that at least wouldn't be pure bench warmers. You can throw them on ST, install a few package plays for them, etc. Not really comparable.

This is a great breakdown.
I feel like snead is a mixed bag -the rams are great at developing late round picks but their overall draft acumen isnt near the top
I think mcvay is elite in most categories but i think grocery shopping he is good but not great.
