It's amazing you can't take one observation and put it in front of the other.

How is what I'm saying a cheap shot??

I'm simply stating that if Ty is what we hope he is (I think you're inferring that I DON'T HOPE THIS just because I'm a making a well-considered observation that isn't clouded by fandom tsk tsk) than he should have the QB 2 spot wrapped up by end of camp and honestly by the 2nd preseason game.

It's a false inference. It doesn't hold up to reasoning. One does not beget the other. Don't know how to teach logic online.
So, if Bennett beats out Simpson, that means Snead and McVay were colossally fooled by the tape. Is this what you're saying?

Even if Simpson beats of Stetson, I’m not so sure I want our future QB1 thrown into the fire as a rookie (if Stafford was out for a bit). I don’t want to potentially ruin Simpson by playing him too early.

Unless he is CLEARLY ahead of Stetson and he’s ready. But I think he’s better served sitting, learning, getting bigger, letting the game slow down, etc. Young QBs get thrown into the fire way too early these days. Usually to their detriment.
That happens mainly because they're drafted by a shitty team with shitty coaching OR with a shitty offense and not a lot of surrounding talent. That would not be the case with the 2026 Rams. Having said that, I'd prefer he take a couple of years to learn the offense.
You can put all your expectations of Simpson for this season and delay them to next year. The plan is to red shirt him. If Bennett isn't good enough they will get someone else rather than stick Simpson out there. That won't mean they made a bad pick or that they are disappointed in him. Although the media and some here will read it that way. They picked him at 13 because that was there only shot at him and they had bigger plans for next years #1. Not because they think he could start this year. They got him because he showed attributes that they think, with proper coaching, he will grow into at the very least a very good QB. He is a project. You may not like that they spent pick 13 on a project, but that is what they did.
I don't think he's a huge project. He just needs to learn from #9 a bit and master McVay's offense. Red shirt is a great plan though.

Colossally doesn't really offer much in the metric department, does it? And I don't think this is just about tape. Again, only one metric.

That being said, if Simpson doesn't have the QB 2 position locked up by end of camp than I think there's probably a 1 in 10 chance he'll ever become a top 20 QB in the NFL given Simpson's draft prospects and Bennett's clear deficiencies.

In this scenario, I do believe Snead and McVay will have made an error in their judgement. That being said, I also have an inkling that they're sorta okay if they swing on Simpson and it doesn't hit. I suspect they took a calculated risk on him given the fact that they don't expect to be able to draft a superior prospect at the position reasonably in the next few years.

And sadly, I can't believe I have to make this clear. I WOULD LIKE OUR QB OF THE FUTURE TO SUCCEED AND BECOME A TOP 15 QB IN THIS LEAGUE.

You don't have to make anything clear. We all know you want Simpson to succeed. You're just deficient in your reasoning if he doesn't make it at this year's back up. All good.....

This is such an emotional take. You know whos impressed with rookie qbs? Jeff fisher.

Its cool. We all know you're still a little shaken by your pre-draft and post-draft take on Simpson.

Its OKAY to be wrong sometimes, pal.....
Pray tell, what were my pre-draft and post-draft takes on Simpson?

It's is okay to be wrong sometimes, I try to only be wrong sometimes. I suggest you try it. (Okay, here's the thing, I'm trying to be REALLY obvious - what kind of inference can you make from this?)

If you have to make up LIES about how Les Snead and Sean McVay feel if young Ty Simpson doesn't ascend to QB2 his Rookie season, that pretty much says it all.

Psst, most here see it.....

Ladies and gentlemen, he didn't answer the question above.

I don't think he knows what my pre and post draft takes were.

Instead he just made a vague accusation about something I'm not doing.

Look, I appreciate your passion. What I don't appreciate is your unwillingness to argue in good faith. That really bums me out buddy.

(Also, how about the inference! I'm spitting some good stuff here!)

Before moving on to a hypothetical argument, lets agree to wait and see IF Bennett actually OUSTS Simpson for the QB2 spot.

We all wasted PAGES on Sorsby and where he would go in a Supplemental Draft that never happened.

Simpson beats out Bennett for 2, and i would say its 55-45 he does, then we are wasting our breath and our fingers typing about something that didn't happen.

I'm as guilty as anyone.

Don't hate on the Sorsby thread, its a good off season discussion. Just hating because you didn't bet on that happening :laugh4:

COWARD!!!!! ;)

Honestly though, without giving me odds it's very hard for me to take your opinion as more than sky high optimism unmoored by concrete observations.
Is it even possible for our odds to be based on concrete evidence? One side is projecting that he hasn't improved and the other side is projecting that he has. Neither side has facts to base that opinion on. Both the optimistic and pessimistic view are unmoored by concrete observations.

He had better end up being better than a top 15 QB. McVay can coach up a lot of quarterbacks to be top 15 IMO.

I certainly hope so. But that will only be the case if Simpson is an elite QB1. There is plenty of room for him to sort much lower in that equation. I'm never a fan of crowning any pick right away, let alone a tactical shot at a QB who spent 75% of his collegiate career riding the pine.

If by this time next year they think Simpson is a backup, they're right back where they were prior with Jimmy at QB2 on a cheap deal. Only difference is they have team control with the QB2, and at least one option if Stafford and family sail off into the sunset after winning the Super Bowl. But if things were to happen that way they would still need to look for QB on the FA market and have him compete with Simpson at the very least. And that may not be good enough for McVay. He has the very highest of expectations with that position.

On the flipside of that though if Simpson impresses enough the Rams may let Stafford move on. We saw that happen with Mahomes, though he was replacing a far lesser QB than Stafford. Mahomes won the practice squad role and their defense reportedly couldn't stop him in practice during that season, so from there making room for him was inevitable. Rams are certainly prone to that type of decision tree if Simpson is good enough.

I get the homer hopes of course and believe it or not I share them. But at this point I'll be happy if Simpson shows good grasp of the offense and gives Bennett a run for his money in preseason games. Just build your game young feller. Stack good days and learn.
To me the main thing that makes it historic is managing to get two all pros at their peak for a first round draft pick each basically.
This is definitely a version of F them picks.
Would you rather have a first round draft pick maybe or a all pro here and now - ready to go?
And what really impresses with me with Simpson is actually what some people look at as an issue. Simpson didn't start multiple years. He started looking good right out of the box after several years on the bench as a backup. I don't see any reason why he wouldn't do the same exact thing here after being a backup for a year or so.
So with me it's more than just "homer hopes".
It is something we have evidence of right before our eyes.

That's a fair take. I am just of the mind that there is too much emphasis on Simpson enabling those moves. Sure, there's a connection from the perspective of the Rams saying that 2027 first round pick came into play for upgrading the team directly due to them taking a shot on a QB of the future. But Simpson is still a bit of a dice roll as it pertains to whether he is in fact our future QB1. And by that I don't mean the guy who starts for a year or two, but the QB1 who kicks ass for a decade or more in horns.

In other words aside from the QB side of things those offseason moves may be enough to win us a title. They don't need the QBotF tied in. It's a nice storyline and there is truth to it, but Simpson is not a factor this year for the title run this team looks like it may be destined to make. Even if they were still sitting there with Jimmy on a cheap contract once again they could have made those moves and still perhaps poached a QB by positioning for one who falls out of favor in what should be a deeper class in 2027.

It feels good to have a QB who might be the future on our roster. And I am looking forward to preseason more than I have in years. So the way I see it maybe Simpson hits and if so then sure, your words will be correct. But if not, that's fine too, provided we win a title or two in the next few years, or even if Stafford plays for a few more years and keeps us relevant and Simpson ends up being a long term backup. That's not an ideal use of a 13th overall pick but I don't care all that much as long as we get a title and/or if Stafford sticks around longer than expected.

I think Bennett will do just fine sitting on our practice squad running the opposing teams offense in practice. And is there if we need them for a game day active.

I agree that saying Simpson was the key to all of this is a bit of a stretch but you know they need to make their headlines to get their clicks.
