NFL officials still suck and always will. I only got to watch the last minute and 29 seconds of the game and that is all it took to realize that NFL officials are not " worth the power to blow them to Hell". I have often made the argument that robots could do a much better job of calling games, but people use the argument that then you lose the human element. Well we once again viewed how the human element can influence the outcome of these games. These guys probably will go home and jack off to a picture of Brady, that is if they can still get it up. The NFL refuses to do anything about this flawed product, nothing will change and it pisses me off.

Nope. Don't agree. Cowboys fucked it up despite MULTIPLE opportunities including an absolute gift turnover from Chris Godwin, 2 picks from Tommy, 4 total TOs, and Dak/CeeDee/Amari Cooper playing their asses off, and maybe even milk the game w/ ~1:40 left.

Said it in the other thread in a playoff game that doesn't get called, either. They (Dallas) put the hands of a good QB with plenty of time to just get into FG range. Dallas shriveled.

The Cowboys did enough to lose yes, but they did more to win it. The Bucs had time on the clock. It wouldn’t have decided the game. The refs should have called a pass interference on Godwin for a clean uncontested ending. It’s the season opener. Try to make it look good. Do your best refs.

As much as I was happy for the bad call there, the Saints still had time to recover, just like the Bucs tonight.

That playoff game between the Rams and Saints had so many things wrong with it right from the start, like a couple thousand fans blowing whistles. Not calling a penalty against the Saints for crowd interference was more egregious than NRCs interference not being called, nor missing ADs hands to the face.

I think believe that the petition and reporting how Rams fans didn’t want Vinobitch as the ref had an affect on the league and caused them to tell refs not to go light on the calls that night.

They aren't going to call that on a back shoulder throw when the defender doesn't have his feet set and is gonna crash and burn either way. Contact didn't have an impact on the result, there was no way Lewis was going to recover to contest that ball.

I will say the one thing I've seen pretty consistently is that any time there is a questionable call at a big moment in a big game it almost always seems to go the way of the more popular or "trending" team. No big conspiracy theory just an observation of the nature of external influence on human error on the part of the refs

Excellent analysis right here.

If the WR and CB both have their feet set, and are going up for a jump ball in the EZ, and the WR pushes off to gain separation, that's one thing. But on this play, the WR turned for the back shoulder, the DB didn't have his feet set, and all the DB's momentum was pulling him in the same direction.

I agree with Collinsworth's analysis that this was a tough play to call (as many plays are). Could have gone either way with the flag. In the end though, given that the DB's momentum was so strong, I don't think the WR's push was quite enough to throw the flag and negate the game-winning play.

And in general, I'm sympathetic to how hard the job is for the refs. Plays happen at blazing speed, sometimes things are decided by an inch or less.

Honestly man none of the things you just listed there matter.

They are justifications nothing more.

That was PI plain and simple and if the Saints get that call they more than likely win that game near the goal line since at the very least they milk that clock.

Bad calls suck and it’s a part of the game.

I agree it was OPI, but it’s the NFL unfortunately and those refs suck ass.

It’s easy to complain having the privilege of 6 different and angles and slow motion watching from home but in person on the sideline it’s different. I wonder what all the ref point of views were at that particular play.

The ref was standing right behind the play with a perfect view.

Penalties that I really have a bone to pick are ones that really didn't have an impact on the play. This is one of them. DB was well on the way to landing on his own ass from momentum there and had no opportunity to impact the play. Did Godwin extend his arm? Sure did, but did it impact the play? Probably just as much as the DB having a hold of his pads from behind and his arm around front (which were the only way he wasn't going to go flying trying to spin and stop like that).

Looks like a push off to me, my guess is it's about momentum.

Last year in their home opener they pushed off on Ramsey and he went backwards, which got the flag.. Since their defender spun around and fell backwards the ref may have just chalked it up to tripping over himself at full speed.

The db was moving towards Godwin before being pushed off. I don't understand how you can look at the video posted above and come to the conclusion the DB was already on the way down.

Looks more like he's farther out and from a possibly obscured angle. Note the difference between the ref and the camera man in red.

Nah the DB was definitely running with Godwin. The defender flips his hips as Godwin gets his right hand on him and the momentum carries him. You can see the defender grab before Godwin's left arm is fully extended. I kind of think that defender tried to "sell" it too.

Not clear to me it was PI. Defender had his hands on the receiver too. In real time I thought it was a correct no call.

Anyway I'm not interested in more whining about refs just yet. Especially not on behalf of the Cowboys.

It was an exciting game, Cowboys had their chances, lots of close plays. But they gave the ball back to Brady and, guess what, they lost.
