Weird.. I thought in racing being fast was the thing? I guess being performative is more important.

Anywho...

Tutu may not be the sharpest route-runner.. but he's good, as evidenced by his excellent separation numbers.

Puka.. in addition to all of his physical qualities.. the Rams using him well and coaching him well and his experience with Kupp... has an incredible makeup. I think it's easy to get caught up with the "good vibes" Puka and forget that you have to be an insane-level competitor to achieve what he has already. He's also transformed his body over the last two years.

His understanding of space.. balance.. how to offset the force of an attempted tackle.. these are all things that don't show up in testing.. and are some of his best traits.

Love him and can't wait for year three.

I’m excited to see if McVay actually changes anything. It stands to reason that he should with a few new pieces. The offense felt stagnant last year, at times.

Formula 1 lost me when they went with this stupid ass hybrid bullshit for their engines.
I say, get rid of bowing to the woke and make them drive boosted V6 or NA V12a again with manual gearboxes where you actually have to use the clutch pedal. You know, actually drives the freaking car.
None of this paddle shift bullshit and defiantly not full automating transmissions.
There is no reason to have any electric motor in a race car. Why ?? because its about the ENGINES !!!

I would love to get into a discussion in "other sports" forum about Formula 1.....for example the harvesting of battery power is part of the strategy......but my example was to demonstrate in football we're talking about tenths of a second and the bottom line is 4.1 forty is fast, as is 4.0 and 3.9..

3.29 is blazing.....6 tenths of a second better than 3.9. But can we *see* that difference on the field? I seriously doubt it. Not to mention the majority of these "track stars" aren't good football players.
I have to disagree with you and I can figure most know me as not being “woke”. (Let’s not go down that path). I watched the British F1 and it was really cool. They had a driver that had over 230 races without a podium finish 3rd for his first podium. The initial part of the race was real strategic with the rain. Then, when the track dried, it was balls to the wall. Freaking cool shit. I don’t really care about the green shit. These guys were RACING.
Nico Hulkenberg. Yeah that was cool.

That's one of the things I like about F1.....they race in the rain and all the tracks are different in many ways....not just ovals or tri ovals or that little race track in Dover.....different elevation changes, high speed corners, lower speed corners, more corners, less corners and different length straits.

You can keep Nascar and Drag racing. No interest what so ever.

Nope, nope its lame as hell. No electric cars in the world of racing internal combustion engines.
See, I am a drag racer. Build my own car, engines, rear ends and transmissions. Every nut and bolt, me. 69 GTO.
A gearheads , gearhead. Those new F1 cars are multi million dollar marvels. Who cares, they are partially electric.
Ever been to a all electric drag race ? Worst thing ever. Silence down the track. People go to the drag strip to hear the high compression engines, big cams, blowers and the smell of burning rubber.
And you get these dorks who pull up to the track in their store bought Fast Tesla. Yes they move, and they are very heavy so they get traction. But just lame. These guys show up and at like they are something, a player.............. nope. Same thing happens when guys show up with a Hellcat and think they are something.
The new F1 cars, sure its racing and the drivers are very competitive. It cost 10-20 million to race a F1 car. The highest form of racing on earth. Now you say lets not go there. Well, I will say this and leave that part of it alone. Its not hard to find articles on the new powerplants described the new powerplants as "sustainable" and that my friend is a bunch of garbage.
Hot rodding is a huge part of American culture. Its woven into our lives. NASSCAR is a big deal to many. Can you imagine the Daytona 500 race happening in silence ?
Working on your own Hot Rod is the American way.
Electric cars are on their way down. Unless they get real battery technology where you can charge them fast with double the range they will never be more than a niche. People find out the hard way that if cold and you need the heater its a direct huge battery draw. Its a free by product of a gas engine. Air conditioning, tiny bit of power from a gas engine but a huge draw on a battery.
Electric cars are a joke.
There is some very interesting 2 stroke clean gas engine tech coming out. VERY powerful, small, lightweight and efficient.
But none of the F1 cars are electric. They just have enhancements that incorporate an electric engine for quick boost and a few other things. I didn't think about it at all while watching the race because the engines were still screaming. I'll give you that a silent auto race of any kind would be boring as fuck. But that's not what I was watching. I have been to many races - hobby stocks, demolition derbies, Outlaws, NASCAR, drags, Indy cars, CART, Superbikes, IMSA, etc... I was a race junkie for a while and own a couple shifter carts.

I'm sure there are going to continue to be changes that incorporate more "green" innovations. If it ever comes to a time when they are running silently around the track, they will have lost me. The sound of a race is one of, if not THE biggest rushes of watching it - especially in person. I always loved that feeling as you pulled into the track and got your first ear shots of practice runs. Freaking killer!

I can't see myself ever owning an electric car - a hybrid maybe. There are a lot of plusses to them. But going to an all electric race? Out of the question.

I like all racing. But yeah, all left turns gets pretty boring unless you're there. I have to be there for drags as well. If you want to go to something that is a kick in the ass, it's going to one of the NASCAR road races. A lot of paint being swapped.

I was at the Daytona 500 in 88 and sat right near the start finish line. When they come around on the pace lap to get the green flag, the vibration was unbelievable. It went right through me, not to mention I couldn't hear my brother sitting right next to me.

From 1973 through 1976, I went to Watkins Glen every October to watch Formula 1. We'd arrive on Thursday and stay until Monday, tent camping, The guy who drove the 6 of us up there from NJ in a VW Bus had a parachute we put over the van and tent so our campsite was pretty big. Anyway, we would party like hell until the wee hours of the morning but no matter how tired we were those cars screaming past us at 8 or 9 in the morning would wake the dead. BTW, 73 was going to be Jackie Stewart's final race but when his team mate Francois Cevert was killed in qualifying, Ken Tyrrell & Stewart retired his car for the race.

I get the love of the sound of the engine.. I love the rumble of a big 'ol muscle car.

That being said.. man.. EVs are a much better bang for the buck when it comes to performance and drive experience. So much freaking torque. With a low-end EV.. I go 0-60 as fast as a late 80's Mustang 5.0. It's wild. Don't even get me started on the Tesla dual motor plaid things.. crazy.

Samsies. I own a Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. 700+ HP of gas guzzing goodness...... And that's my slow car.

My neighbor owns a Rivian. That thing will put BUS LENGTHS on my TH..... and pretty much anything else on the road, yet it does absolutely nothing for me. Cool tech, for sure....but.....yeah, no. As I told him after he took me for my first ride in it....

"It's cool, and it's certainly fast af.... But there's no sex in its violence."

That sums up how I feel about EVs.

That.... is not fast, haha. This is coming from a Mustang Cobra owner who's owned a few late 80s 5.0's. They felt fast back then, but a stock late model Honda Accord will boat race it light to light, haha. Still rather drive the 5 liter....

...Why are we discussing Formula One on a Puka Nacua-is-a-motherfucking-badass-and-game-changer-in-every-way thread?

It's fast for an Econo-box.. which is essentially what I have. 0-60 in 6 seconds.. it's crazy.

Cuz it’s fun.
I thought watching Puka Nacua making insane catches was fun, too. Come on, guys; the poor guy just got away from a crazy bitch, and he can’t even get another thread singing his praises?

As a kid I participated in electric racing quite a bit. I loved it. We had a hobby shop in town. with a great six lane track, with high banked turns and it was always a challenge to see who could tweak their cars to be the fastest. Great fun in the seventies. No loud noises required. :zany1:
