I think this story is Pooh.

I haven't participated in this thread to this point because the angst over a 5th round draft pick isn't worth a ton of my energy, but I'll make two observations.

1) why aren't fans more upset about Brennan Jackson being cut? He was a 5th rounder last year, Paul was a 5th rounder this year. It's the same thing: nonconsequential.

2) For those upset about Reeder and Murchinson being on the team, I get it but that likely has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with Paul. Paul would have been cut even if both of those guys were also cut.

In regard to Reeder, they play different ILB positions. Paul was listed as depth behind Speights like Dolac. And even if they cut Murch it's unlikely they wanted 3 players at the Speights position (Speights, Dolac, Paul).

Once he lost to Dolac, he was out. Stop being mad at other players even if you feel they do suck.
Great points, I was going to say all of this but hadn't found the time to articulate it but you did it for me and probably better. It all came down to Dolac being awesome.

A guy who couldn't make the team warrants his own thread?

Again... I guess this shows how great a job the Rams are doing with the roster, overall, if this is where people are focused.. angst over losing a 5th ILB.
He was a subject of much discussion since the draft and, generally speaking across lots of media, was as much of a fan-favorite as a 5th round pick could be.

Seemed worth talking about...

If Paul is still available today, it’s pretty clear to me that it’s not about his chase and tackling ability or shedding blocks.

My guess is signs of being uncoachable or worse. I bet it comes out later on.

When coach uses language like "I wish him well", no other team picks him up even to a PS it looks like, and his dad is posting cryptic bible verses on twitter, it sure sounds like it's not about the football.

It has to be really bad for no team to take a chance on him.

The Rams usually do their due diligence researching character issues though, which would make it all the more odd.

If I were to guess he had issues getting g the play called and the team out of the huddle. Then that lead to other issues.

Yeah I'd say that is likely. He had some good plays in preseason, but felt overall like he wasn't playing fast and decisive. I mean he had a run fill where Dolac beat him to the ball carrier from the other side, which I think summarized him vs Dolac accurately. Where Dolac was up to speed mentally, which helps these guys play fast, and he also is more athletic and covers ground well.

I had to watch that with the sound off with where I was. What I saw was a linebacker that seemed to be in position but was always the second or third player to the ball. On one he had position and the RB still gained almost 7 yards.

I’ll admit to not watching much video of Paul but what I saw in those few plays really didn’t impress me.

Not bashing the guy because he was cut, because I wish he was still here, but you could see in a lot game highlights, Dolac was almost always to the ball carrier first with Paul cleaning up as a guy is being brought down. I do get that they didn't want to go into the season with both back ups being rookies.

Wish they could have put Reeder on the PS to start the year and then see what transpires from there. I guess they didn't want to risk that he could be claimed as a cheap vet that could help a team thin at LB.

Worth a discussion? Sure! Worth the angst?!?? Absolutely not!

Notice almost all of the negative commentary is about the Rams making a mistake cutting him.

How much of it has been focused on what they may have missed in evaluation?

Almost none, from what I’ve seen.. at least from people complaining about his release.

Dolac outplayed him both during practice and on gameday in preseason. Plus, IMO, they felt that it took more time then it should, to actually get on the practice field. For that reason, he is now on the Seahawk practice squad with a fresh, new opportunity.

It sure seemed like he didn't put up great ST tape and if you're not a starter at LB, that's a big problem.

God, I remember the Martz teams, horrible coverage on STs, Martz always wanted developmental guys and toys as backups who had no ST capacity and we paid for it.

That's what I saw, too. And I've seen more than enough similar play from the Reeder - Rozeboom duo.
Dolac & Speights are the only LB's I've seen recently who'll dive into the scrum.
Jury still out on Landman, never saw a snap from him yet, but apparently he's a team Captain now, so there's that.

That is an excellent point all of us should take note of!

Is that akin to a woman from the U.S. deep South saying "well bless your heart"?
