An egg on anything spicy is a great start to curing a hangover.

BTW... I think Tommy's used a Cincinnati chili recipe. Long, slow cook with a blend of ground pork and beef and lots of medium heat chilies and copious amounts of garlic. Didn't they also put something like a sport chili on those things?

I have to admit to only going there a couple of times and when there was a line, there was always a burrito stand near by.
Yes and the best burrito places were the ones that were open all night...

I'm surprised pizza isn't on the list. When I'm drunk, wings is my go to...and a greasy burger when I'm hungover. Pizza is probably my #2 choice for both situations.

My go-to in Vegas is the Peppermill. Get a huge breakfast there then crash out. If you've never been, you gotta try it when you're there. It's a real unique place.

Always spicy Mexican food

Any local hole in the wall Mexican restaurant that serves a big bowl of menudo or pozole. If not a greasy breakfast burrito from said restaurant is always good too.
Exactly the best way to get over a hang over! Eat some chili! Why? Among the many health benefits to get rid of a hangover, among other positive effects it on the human body! The hotter the better!! Lol but I guess not hot chili works to..

When I was a kid we'd hit Tommy's more than Denny's tbh. Because you could get a badass double chili burger with a huge order of fries and a soda for change at the bottom of your pocket. (y)

I used to frequently hit the Tommy's that was across from the old Busch Gardens on Roscoe Blvd., but I can't remember whether they were the Tommy's that had a great spice mix sprinkled on top of their fries or if it was a different San Fernando Valley Tommy's location on Sherman Way that was doing this, as there was only the one place that was offering the spice back in the early 70's. Both were located in Van Nuys.

I also liked dropping in at the Peppermill occasionally back in the 70's and 80's, loved just lounging/relaxing at the fire pits and enjoying the cocktails and overall ambience, ... with a couple different girlfriends over the years back in the day.

My uncle was a manager at that Busch Gardens. That place was a blast back in the day. They would even offer little 4oz cups of Bud to kids with parental consent. My dad also was a fireman at the station next to the airport.

Brings back memories.

I've tried to copy Tommy's chili and I just cant get it 100% right...I can remember many of late night early mornings standing in a block long line at the LA original location in the 70's...after 6 AM if you wanted they would fry an egg and put it on their chili burger....yummy....cured many of my teenage handovers.....
Did you know Tommy's granddaughter is a really cool lady?

I believe she is still running it now since Tommy died in the 90s. Haven't talk to her though for over 20 years.

She originally worked at Farmers Insurance Group corporate office and she would take a bunch of us to Tommy's headquarters and give us Tommy's burgers fries etc whenever we wanted.

One night she brought the chili to my apartment and my roommate looked at it before it was heating up and said - I am never having one of their chili burgers ever again.

I recall it being a very sad day when they closed the Gardens permanently at the end of the 70's, during my late teens early twenties friends and I spent a good deal of time roaming the park and indulging in those little cups as we moved between the 3 or 4 beer stations. It was beautifully landscaped and some of the exotic birds were incredible. I believe it was here that I saw my first toucan.

My mom used to take me to Busch Gardens all the time when I was a kid. And she doesn't even like beer.

I agree - it was a pretty cool place to roam around but as a kid it got somewhat boring since it didn't really have any roller coasters that I can remember it having.

But I did like the shows they had.

I wonder how many of you are old enough to remember TIP's Restaurant at the I-5 and Lyons intersection in Newhall/Valencia ? They had the tallest sign for miles so it could be easily seen from the freeway. The restaurant itself wasn't much more than a good diner, but it was the back-room bar which made the place famous, and it starred the world class mixologist Bobby Batugo, his Polynesian drinks won many awards (1'st place ribbons occupied an entire wall). Everything was made from scratch, no bulk purchased commercial mixes in this lounge.

It's truly amazing what we could get away with in the 70's & 80's, for when my buddies and I would make our Tip's runs on our Harley's, we'd be pretty wasted on our return home and often exceeded 100 mph while losing parts off our rides. We'd occasionally see cars pulled over by the CHP, but they always left us alone. Of course, looking back on this, we were foolish to behave this way, we were young & dumb and enjoying the wind in our face and an ultimate freedom, but we all survived it and somehow avoided the DUI's & jail.

How about Love's BBQ Pit? That was always my go to as a kid for birthdays. Claud Akins signed my cast and I signed his in the lounge at that place. Back then, kids could hang with their parents in the lounge.
