This kinda feels like circular logic.

How do we know that Parkinson and/or Jackson won't be cut or traded before the start of the league year?
Because they were just signed and are on short 3 year deals.
It works on paper but not reality

Their roster bonuses are baked into the dead cap numbers, no?
No
Dead cap is money they already received.
Roster bonuses is money they will receive and go against the cap.
That would go on top of the dead money unless they are traded first AND the trading team is willing to pay it.
In other words, extremely unlikely

Hoping they re-do his contract and he accepts it. Be fair, but he is not a $28M a year player.
He converted $14 mil of his 2023 base salary into a signing bonus to save the team cap space in 2023. Isn't that spread across the final years of his contract? Isn't that why his cap hit is $29 million in 24 and 25?

Allen Robinson would like to have a word with you on Rams "reality."

Signed 3 years on 3/17/22; traded for peanuts on 4/23/23.

Parkinson just got 4 snaps against the Eagles which is only two more than Tutu.

It's not certain, maybe not even probable, that he makes it to the new league year on the Rams roster.

Parkinson is tradeable/cutable with his contract. His 2025 roster bonus is already guaranteed but his 2025 salary becomes guaranteed the 5th day of the league year I think it was. Cutting him is a $6.7 million cap hit when his salary cap number for the year is $9.8 million. Doesn't mean he's going to be cut or traded just giving the numbers. None of us know what the Rams will or won't do so dealing in absolutes is folly.

That's True.

Unfortunately, it is ALSO true that the Rams had $21.5M of Dead-$ on their 2023 salary cap, resulting from that signing and subsequent trade.

Players can be moved (released or traded) shortly after signing big contracts ... BUT ... there is usually a cost.
A brutally painful cost, to the Rams' 2023 salary cap, in the case of Allen Robinson

Yes, mistake free agent signings have painful consequences. No doubt.

But my point is that those (dead money) consequences are not necessarily a deterrent for the Rams who often quickly and aggressively rectify their mistakes.

None of us know their internal strategy for this off-season, so there is no way any fan can say that quickly moving on from a bad contract is unrealistic....especially given their recent history.

I hope the Rams learn from past mistakes, and don't repeat them.

Me too. But what's the lesson?

Free agency is like the draft - there will be a decent percentage of attempts that don't work out.
$20 million in dead cap will prevent you from upgrading a few spots on the roster. I draft pick for the Rams won't carry that kind of dead cap if he's cut or traded. Jared Verse had a rookie contract totaling $15 million.

True. But the only SURE way to avoid a free agent mistake is to not play the game.

Where would the Eagles be if they didn't sign Barkley?

Edited for @OldSchool. Focus on the emphasized word.

Avoid awful contracts ... like the Allen Robinson deal that was a knee-jerk reaction to the loss of Von Miller.

Avoid excessive Dead-$.

Make better decisions in league-wide free agency.

Eat your vegatables and say your prayers before bed-time. And, always exercise a little Condom-sense.

Both of you are saying 'just make better decisions.'

You think teams make bad decisions on purpose? You think teams miss on draft picks on purpose?

Come on! This is not science. It's an imperfect art and you know it.

If it was as easy as "just do better", then everyone would be doing well.

Talk about circular logic.
Parkinson is discussed as a contract that can save cap room and you counter with a malcontent who the Rams dumped and took a huge hit to do so.
Good grief.

Yes.

To say if they moved on quickly from Robinson, who presented a much harsher salary cap situation (dead cap, cap hit, etc.), then it's possible that they would likewise move on from Parkinson after 1 year.

It can't be dismissed as unrealistic.

So… Parkinson’s numbers.. according to Spotrac, are a 9.8 million cap hit and 6.6 dead cap for next year.

That’s wrong?

Trying to follow.

Sportsrac has opened my eyes to the reality of moving on from a few players. Unless the Rams take a Broncos vs Wilson attitude some guys will remain.

The Rams rank 12th with $9,9570,000 dead money as of now for the 2025 season.
