C'mon guys.... it's not like he's in his 60's..... I consider 44 young, maybe not NFL young but that still is a young man.

If I hadn't had all my injuries and surgeries, I probably would had been able to still dunk a basketball at 44, as I was still under 200 lbs.

Yeah, I used to think that when I was in my 40's. About 16 yrs ago my kid was playing Pop Warner football. The coaches put together a flag football game at a local indoor sports club between the coaches and the dad's. It was very fun. However, the first play of the game one dad "exploded" out of his stance and blew out his Achilles. A few plays later another dad popped his hammy. I thought I survived the night. However, when I got home, after about a 15 min car ride, I couldn't get out of my truck, my one knee felt like it fell off. It ended up that I tore a meniscus. Had surgery a few months later.

We were all in our early to mid 40's and we were a mess. Sure, not former pro athletes, but I mean I played rec basketball into my 30's and was always very active. So age does catch up quick. I still wince everytime I see Stafford scrambling out of the pocket just hoping nothing pops.

I see your point but it's not about the numbers, in my opinion. It's about elevating your team and getting the Championships and Super Bowls and Super Bowl appearances.
To each his own though, criteria wise.
So who's to say the chargers didn't get elevated by him just to get where they got. Look at Stafford for instance. If he didn't come to LA, do you think he would ever be thought of as a hall of famer? I think this criteria is really short sited.

Ouch!!!

Everything was pretty good up to 30 years old.... Prior to that I had an ACL reconstruction when I was 18, then tailbone surgery when I was 19 and rotator cuff surgery when I was 21, and all was still good.... But when "I tried to be like Mike" at the local community center (30 years old) and completely blew my ACL again, it went downhill fast. And the final nail I was nearly killed by a wrong way driver on the 5 freeway at 37 years old. I was in the hospital for 2 months and had multiple surgeries to my upper torso and lower abdomen. That was the longest year of my life.

I don't play sports any more, I only will ride my beach cruiser in the community and stay away from streets. Most of my exercises are my wife's 10lbs dumbbells, push-ups girl style, sit ups and bench press 50 lbs 20 reps three days a week.... And playing with Rocky. So far I don't need any pain management, and as long as I stay below 220 lbs I feel pretty good.

Sorry to hear that. I have avoided any major injury/incident like that thus far... knock on wood. That's what you have to do, stay in shape and workout like that. I recently retired and I need to start getting into the swing of a full workout schedule. I just mess around right now my kid's old weights when I have time. Truth is, I have plenty of time, just have to put my mind to it.

I played on men's fastpitch softball teams. We traveled all over the west coast for tournaments. Mostly Calif. coast. But also Oregon, Wash, Nev, AZ. I was a pitcher for over 30 years. Finally hung up the cleats in my mid 50's. Not to mention I played a lot of golf in between. I'm paying the price for it now. Sciatica, bulging discs. A lot of arthritis. And I played non contact sports. I can't imagine what former football players go through at my age.
