Sure does, Wentz with bigger hands fumbled twice as much in the pocket in fewer games.

Care to address this @LACHAMP46

You did so very good focusing on ONE game, how about responding to this?

My hands are 9 1/4, just slightly larger than Goff, never been told by anyone they’re tiny, been told by many they’re large

And oh yeah, I can grip and spin a football just fine

How large are your hands if you don’t mind me asking?

This is about the biggest crock of utter shit I’ve read...calling 9” hands “tiny” is ridiculous

Actually upon further review....er measurement....I did read that Goff's hands "grew" approximately 1/4 inch so he is now TIED with you at 91/4" .

The race is on....keep s t r e t c h i n g people!!

I can see this being important to some guys but it comes down to concentration and awareness . No matter the size of your hands if you get hit unexpectedly the ball could come out. Guys that control the pocket and feel pressure tend to tuck the ball or throw it down field .

Jared has had a few sack fumbles but he has greatly improved since year 1 with his pocket awareness .

Prediction: Rams will have the "smallest hands QB duo" in the NFL next year after Allen beats out Mannion for the backup gig.

And for the MILLIONTH TIME... The NFL measures hands wrong.

When you grip a ball your pinkie is not a primary compression point. The measurement should be the span from the pad of your thumb to your middle/ring fingers. That is what determines how well you can grip the ball. Some dudes have longer fingers and that's not taken into account in the way the NFL measures the hand. This is why some guys with "little" hands can really spin it when the hand measurement doesn't show well.

The way I'd measure it:

I'd place a pole mounted horizontally at waist height. The pole would have a gradual slope to it with measurements etched into it. Prospects simply grab it, with the focus on their thumb and middle finger for the first measurement, and slide their hand down until the two separate. That last spot where they were touching gives you an accurate and meaningful measurement of how well the kid will grip the ball. Then do the same with the ring finger if desired, maybe even the forefinger.

Hands differ drastically in shape. The above would allow them to quickly ascertain which dudes have the best hand size for purposes of HOLDING A FOOTBALL.

Interesting- I think in Goff’s case he would have small hands either way.

Allen I’m not sure of ? I do think The Rams have a good connection with Phil Salvage.

Mannion is an interesting case.Have to laugh at all The Rams fans that were calling for him to start over Goff.

I've got my wife convinced 6 inches = 9 inches if you know how to use it.

Maybe so, I have no idea. I just think that it's ridiculous teams overlook that some dudes have longer fingers than others. I would guess that Jared, as a tall dude, just has a narrow hand that hurts him in the way the hand is measured. If his index/middle/ring fingers are long enough, they would make up for that poor span from the thumb to the pinky with no problems.

Oh and re: Allen, yeah his hands look pretty damn small. Hard to say, but him being a smaller dude I doubt he's got the longer fingers. What's weird about him, though, is he can spin it in spite of those small hands. Always liked the way the ball seemed to leap out of his hand, not sure if he snaps it or what.

Funny thing is that there's a lot of deviation in how dudes grip the ball. Terry Bradshaw for example would famously put his index finger on the tip of the ball because--in his hillbilly rationalization--the finger would zoom it or whatever. Either way it worked, in that he threw some beautiful spirals, but I suspect that had more to do with the size of his hands.

There is something funky about the way the ball comes out of Jared’s hand at times. His consistency struggles a bit because of it.

That said he throws a good ball when he narrows down , meaning takes a strong drop back.

I try not to think about his hand size , but can’t place it out of my mind with him. He is going to the pro bowl so there is something there.

Nick Foles before playing with The Rams also was an alternate in the pro bowl as well. As of right now I’m cheering for Floes & hoping non of The Rams players get hurt at the pro bowl.

He does throw a good ball when his mechanics are there. IMO the stuff Jared needs to work on have nothing to do with his hand size. He needs to work on his throwing fundamentals on the move, as his accuracy takes a nose dive when he's moving faster than a shuffle. And he's gotta work on the other typical stuff like faster reads and pre-snap recognition.

Lastly I think he'll also start to focus on matchups, in the way that vet QBs do, where they "pick on" certain CBs when they know the matchup favors the receiver. This past year he was consistently true to the reads of the play, but as he gains experience and comfort with McVay that other stuff will start to give him extra advantage vs some opponents.

The cool thing about Goff is his passion for the game , willingness to get better.

I wonder if there was a team rule with Fisher that you could not chew ? Robert Quinn & Goff chew bigtime

Hand size is a stat that sounds like it's relevant, it makes perfect sense, but when you look at the data there's no correlation. Line of fit is flat everyone, the slope is 0, we can all go home now.

This next graph even has Goff and Wentz, who were (shocker) about the same in terms of their fumbles despite Wentz having bigger hands. Keep in mind, this is their college stats vs NFL players.

And here we see that Wentz was actually slightly worse in terms of fumbling the ball when he got sacked. Whoops.

Where did you find that?

It's awesome.

Out of curiosity I measured my hands the way they measure QB's.

I'm left handed. 5' 10" and 175-180 depending on how often I am getting in the gym.

My left hand is 9 1/8" and my right is 8 1/2.

I think, actually I am certain, that I know what type of "stretching exercise" has created this horrible imbalance.

First thing tomorrow I am going to take action to correct this by "stretching" with my right hand.

:yay:

All other things being equal, yes, give me the QB with bigger hands. But hand size is nowhere near the top of the list of attributes I look for in a QB. It's amazing how hand size gets so much press. I don't see 1000 articles about pocket awareness or footwork. Ridiculous.

Wentz fumbles more....he holds the ball more...looking downfield....I'm sure his ball security will improve with time. It's funny....all that fumbling...yet he was still in the race for MVP? Interesting.....

Not sure how large my hands are....I wear a size 13 shoe tho....
