Mahomes said in his presser that he’s never seen it called. That exact penalty has been called 11 times this season.
How many times has blocking in the back been called on a punt return this season? Every other punt?

Not calling that obvious penalty in OT to end a thrilling game was a far worse example of problems w refs.

I wrote a separate thread about solving this problem once and for all and yes, it would have brought that kick back.

The ref's explanation was pretty great. Yeah, we sometimes will give a warning... but he was so offsides it was ridiculous.

The Chiefs are having a hard time not being an Elite team anymore.

Their offense is mediocre and I am sure it's a blow to the Ego.

Maybe you should of drafted better at WR. Like a Puka in RD 5.

Also, If you want to take a flyer on a headache like Toney, then be prepared for games and untimely plays like this.
The Chiefs are their own worst enemy. Their schedule is soft down the stretch when you compare it to the Ravens and Dolphins. If they can build on what they're doing without the ugly turnovers, drops, and penalties they'll be where they want to be.

Records don't matter (in the Playoffs.)-Marshall Faulk

Records don't matter but talent level does.

They are not like one of those teams that are recovering from injury and poised to make a run.

They are lacking Oline and WR talent.

Mahomes is a tremendous competitor but the offense is devoid of talent this year.

I think Mahomes real problem, is that the only guy he trusts to throw to is Mr. Swift.

Yeah he was offsides but so was Von Miller on the next play too and that didn't get called. It's the consistency problem and lack of accountability that has worn me down this season with the refs. Every week there are multiple controversies that seem to have a direct effect on the game outcome and a lot of them are blatant fuck ups that could, at the very least, be corrected by someone in the booth after the fact.

When the refs pick and choose when to throw that flag it gives the conspiracy theorists more ammo in their claims the refs are steering games.

I get it. Its damned if you do damned if you don't for the refs. They let it go and we'd seeing still pics of it claiming they're aiding the Chiefs. But Mahomes is right about the part where refs and players communicate before the snap. That is a normal part of the game. Apparently it didn't happen there. Didn't help that the Bills defense did the same thing the next play with no flag.

Top receiver is where Toney was suppose to be on his side of the field. Toney was literally one yard forward of the other receiver.

Chiefs produce their own drama.

100% it was the right call but earlier in the presser Reid talks about how refs give a warning. Toney should have checked with the ref, did he? I dunno. But there seems to be an understanding between refs and teams to try and avoid shit like this. Like Mahomes said, this is such an inconsequential "foul" that ruined an epic touchdown. It was a foul, yes and he's pissed they called it. But you can't deny his frustration is valid especially when Von Miller gets a free pass being offsides the play aftwr.

Toney did not check with the ref. I rewatched the entire play and he never looks away from Mahomes.

I think the frustration from so many is that the calls are inconsistently called from a player and a game perspective. One player may be called differently as well as individual games vary widely.

The answer is for everything to be reviewable, the review process to be transparent like in the XFL iirc and irrespective of the source, if clear evidence of a blown call shows up, the refs must fix the call

As games are refereed more consistently, the game will have more integrity and there will be much less frustration (frustration is just unmet expectation… I dunno if someone else famous said this, but I figured this out about 15 years ago).

Fulfill the expectation of a well officiated game and the frustrations at the refs will diminish significantly

Off topic, but… I watched Cossell on Cowherd. He said the real problem with the Chiefs in his opinion, is that Mahomes does not look comfortable anymore. He thinks they need some serious upgrades on the offensive line.

It’s interesting how many things have to be right for teams to win, even for a guy like Mahomes.
No doubt.

Taking a look at the pressures... His pressures against this year are at 21.1% (19th). Last season's pressures against were at 19.4% (20th). So not too much a difference overall but they did let Orlando Brown leave in FA and replaced him with Jawaan Taylor. Maybe Mahomey doesn't trust his blindside protection. That will certainly get in a QB's head.

They also have a new OC. That can have all manner of effects if the preparation is not as good as it was in previous seasons. QB seeing things that are not expected in the gameplan is a recipe for looking bad.

And then weapons matter too. If you have big time threats that can give you a lot of favorable looks vs when you don't have as many threats. How quickly those weapons get open, how well they take advantage in space, a ton of variables there. But not familiar with who left and who was added and all that.

Might be that Mahomey is just in a down period too, with too many distractions. All those commercials, girl drama, etc. But I will say that once the playoffs start I don't know that I'd count them out, even with their issues this year.

Same shit with the KC GB game… multiple calls were wrong and uncorrected

Starts at the 8 minute mark. I know he's pissed because the call cost his team the game but I can't disagree with what he's saying. Let the players play, no one watches football to see what the refs call and don't. For the face of the NFL to go in on officiating like this you know there's a problem.

While in general "let them play" I agree with, turning a blind eye to a foul is just wrong. How many times have we gotten a sack then they throw a flag for defensive off sides?

How about the WR just pays attention and not line up wrong, it's not that hard.

And it's not like the officials knew this play was gonna happen, they threw the flag immediately, then the play happened.
PM and the Chiefs have had plenty of flags go their way. IMO, he's just crying because if it favored them, he wouldn't say a word.

It sure doesn't help with the epidemic of poor officiating that a high profile figure like Mahomes goes off about a call that was actually correct.
