I wonder what the cost would be to acquire Mariota? He looked pretty incredible when he got a chance this season. He's also mobile and accurate, 2 things McVay is looking for. I know its a small sample since he left the Titans, and didn't look particularly good there, but, change of scenery and a superior offense could help.

As a backup yes but as a starter? Hell no lol

Goff slid a yard short against Seattle right before half time.

That's a fairly smart play in my book. Why kill yourself right before halftime.

If it was end of game then I might be more upset.
I am 99.9% sure after that fumble (I believe it was vs Miami) that Goff was under strict orders to get down before the kill shot hit, sorta like the one that sent Wolfy outta the game via an ambulance vs Seattle ...a little perspective isn’t the end of the world here guys

Snead doing his former employee a solid favor here and leaking some Ram interest in Stafford - to drive up 9er cost. That’s my conspiracy theory on our supposed interest in MS.
If so then he should be fired.

You don't undercut your player, a QB no less, or tear him apart publicly to help a former employee.

I agree on Marita. I am intrigued about him.

That being said, I am here for all you guys, and for Jared, and for the Rams’ Organization. Those are not just words. I will step up.

I’ll do it. I will take Jared Goff’s girlfriend off-his-hands, and date her going forward.

You’re welcome.

oh the sacrifices you are willing to make for this team. i am so impressed. just wondering if you are married(for black mail purposes) any way your courage is almost unlimited thank you for doing your ram duty

I'm guessing the Rams did their Holmesy a favor by driving up Stafford's price. My guess is Detroit will get maybe a b/u qb in return and a few second and third round picks. Hence the rumor of long rebuild process.

Another team will trade for Stafford as they groom their future QB. I think Indy and SF are logical fits and grab their guy in the second round this year or trade back in the first.

Well of course the franchise should have waited and analyzed more.. Goff should have never been given that contract, that is so obvious now in hindsight.

But what do you want McVay and Snead to do about it now?? If McVay doesn't think Goff is his guy anymore, should he just do nothing and sit in limbo with a QB you no longer like? Just because you gave him a contract? Or should he be proactive and try to upgrade the position to improve the offense? I think its ridiculous to say "oh well we gave Goff the contract and we're stuck.. Woe is me."

McVay is an elite competitor and an aggressive thinker.. if he's not happy with the production somewhere, or the value he's getting from an overpaid player he's going to look to upgrade that spot. Regardless of who it is. Should McVay and Snead get criticism for paying Goff early? You bet your ass! But that doesn't mean they shouldn't do something about it.
Sure, you should do something if you want a change, hell you've done it multiple times already. Now your left dealing with even more short comings on your team because you just wasted another $22mil of your cap space on another piss poor decision. We wasted $30mil of cap last year and now we'll waste another $30mil this year. We still have Gurley sucking up cap money again this year. That's a lot of money that could have been spent on positions that we are weak at. We could have championship team if we had used that money wisely.

Then you go in front of the media and let them know that you are happy with your QB, let them know that he is not as good as you had hoped and then turn around and try to trade him after you just devalued him.

I just just overpaid for this car, I have issues with it, want to buy it? Then you turn around and are looking at another car that has a lot of the same problems, but with a lot more miles on it.

Not woe is me, woe is the team that is stuck in cap hell because of these mistakes.

Mariota is a mobile QB who is gifted but can't read the field for shit. I don't think trading for him makes sense when we can find guys like him easily in the draft.

I expect that will be the plan too. McVay is going to mix in a heavy dose of RPO, pistol, etc and run the attack with waves of mobile QBs. But I don't think Mariota fits because why pay for him when you can draft Mond, Newman, Ehlinger, etc and have them compete with the QBs on the roster who also fit that approach.

Not the Goff part - them wanting to trade him or at least put pressure on him is real. I’m talking solely the interest in Stafford

All of this because Goff got hurt and Wolford played a spunky game in his place?
What if Goff never injured his thumb?
If this is truly the case it will be the first doubts I have in McVay as a coach. 4 years of success, twice leading the NFL in scoring, and making the SB on the heels of his QB, and yet Wolford runs for a meaningless 1st down at the end of the Cards game and McVay has an epiphany of what he wants his offense to be?

Right?
Hey I get the enthusiasm for wanting Watson, and Rams fans creating all sorts of ways this could work out. The dude is a legit top 5 QB. But when we start talking replacing Goff with Stafford? Cmon... Mariota? Minishew? Good grief... I'm sure Jameis Winston wont be too far behind

This thread actually has actually clarified what should be plain: there really aren't very many QBs out there who could be traded for and who are likely to upgrade the Rams' offense over Goff. Watson is one of them. Stafford and lots of other guys aren't.

And just getting Watson by himself would not be a sure thing to take the O to another level or to take the team past one win in the playoffs. There's other stuff to improve in the offense too. And nothing is guaranteed.

But I'm willing to take the chance (if there is a chance) to get Watkins because McVay seems to have burnt his bridges with Goff and I have always really liked Watson from Clemson on.

Not willing just to trade for some JAG qb who lacks Goff's ability as a passer.

Including a TMZ level website with the only source being a random comment on reddit of all places.
Heck, if TMZ was on it, I would have been concerned.
This wasnt even a rumor, and in the vein of "if there's smoke, there's fire", there wasnt smoke. Had there been even the slightest truth to that slander, a TMZ or the like would have found it. And this was from late October/early November 2019
Nothing since
Alas...

Not at all.

All of this because McVay is a trendsetter. All this because QB salaries are fucking stupid. All this because he has decided Goff is not good enough and he's going to bring in QB types who fit what he wants to do. Every single QB he has brought in has had good mobility. He tried to hire Kingsbury because IMO he wants to bake in more college schematics into his scheme. Right now behind Goff we have 3 guys who can execute designed runs and RPO.

Of course he may get Watson but that's gonna be extremely costly. Not sure how that would work out long term and for me personally even though I acknowledge that we overvalue first round picks as fans I am leery of another 4 years of no first round picks and I think our roster will suffer. But I don't think that will happen because it's too good to be true. Basically.

Everyone's talking about Stafford but that doesn't fit the trend where I think McVay is going. Statue in the pocket puhlease. I could be waaaay off base here but we are going to be athletic at QB and he's going to use that to threaten the edges and increase his third down efficiency and with our run game that I expect us to have I think we'll have a very good offense. Not great but better than we've endured the last two years.

Austin Blythe has received 10 times the criticisms that Goff has.

Poor guy doesn't even have a legion of adulators like our unpredictable QB.

Think you have who is getting the 10x backwards. But I do admit there's a scarcity of Blythe adulators. It's a shame.

No it's not. We'd have to endure pages of them trying to get their heads around the fact that Blythe isn't good enough. Pass on that shit.

I have not had that sense of clarity

I think Stafford would be a big upgrade, myself. And honestly, if we can rid ourselves of Goffs contract and replace him with a JAG who is paid like a JAG, I think we may be better off.

I just don’t believe in him.

I want to - I have tried to get behind him - I have tried to like him. I just don’t. I think he is holding us back.

I know I’m in the minority, but I think we looked better with the Wolf out there.

Cant have it both ways. If McVay wanted this completely different offense scheme from what they run with their QB, then where has it been? Why did it take Goff to get hurt before Wolford got an opportunity? You are talking out of both sides of your mouth on this, he cant possibly have this grand scheme and yet was waiting for what? Hasnt drafted a QB that fits this scheme, hasnt brought in any assistants who preach this scheme, hasnt found a play or two each game to utilize Wolford's skills, like New Orleans does or teams who have run wildcat etc.
