Or we keep Dotson as a backup and next year we move Avila to C and Dotson to LG

Both Dotson and Anchrum are eligible for free agency following this season, so it's pretty difficult for me to plan futures for either one of them at the moment.

Watching some tape and I like Dotson a bit better at RG than LG

Edit: and mans is country strong. He pancaked that big Samoan with long hair on Denver and that’s a big big man to treat so badly. I love it

Curious why it's Allen or Shelton? Has anything happened that makes you think Allen isn't our starting center?

Only if Allen is traded do I have Shelton starting ahead of him, and McVay would need to sign off on McAllister's progress for it to go down.

Why? Allen has a chronic knee problem. I'd rather go with Shelton for continuity and better run blocking. Allen's knee isn't getting any better.

Baclups

OT McClendon
Guard Thomas
Center McAllister

The entire Oline would be healthy with the Subtraction of Noteboom and Allen. However, I don't think either would be wanted by another team and doubt Noteboom contract is going to make it east to release him due to dead cap hit. So Joe would be hanging around.

The bad part is that means risking utting one of the four backups on the PS for a day until they can put Joe on the PUP list or the IR. I wouldn't want them to risk losing any of the four (McClendon, Thomas, McCallister, or Dotson/Anchrum.)

That's why I trade him, so he doesn't continue on to becoming a longer term problem. Tampa Bay just lost their starting Center for the season, maybe we can help each other out ...

I agree that they should trade him but I doubt any team wants an injured Center. But why start him over Shelton?

Allen took a pay cut to stay with the team. I believe Jourdan said he'd be easy to cut now. The fact that he had to take a pay cut tells me that they don't think he's that valuable. I'll bet that with Joe's current problem, McVay is fed up with him too.

They don't trade for Dotson not to start him. He's a LG so that would move Avila to RG. This signals to me that Noteboom will go on IR.

LT Jackson
LG Dotson
C Allen
RG Avila
RT Havenstein

Swings: OT McClendon, Thomas, C/OG Shelton, McAllister

This allows them to run right or left. Dotson is a marginal starter, i.e. not great but not terrible either. That said he could turn out to be another Austin Corbett type of OL trade. He's young enough to say he might have upsides with the right coaching and offensive scheme. My main concern with him is his footwork looks slow and out of sync at times. He's slow to react to stunts and off angled rushes. Some of that can be mitigated by improved training and the rest by better film study and technique (i.e. coaching). He's a work in progress as was Corbett and IMO has similar upsides as Austin had coming in.

Once Dotson gets up to speed, this can still be a decent OL this year.

Interesting trade, which says alot about Noteboom's health and possible future.

Dotson has said in interviews he prefers RG. He goes on to say he just feels natural at RG. He's a mauler!

This will be our opening day line up.

LT: Jackson
LG: Avila
OC: Shelton
RG: Dotson
RT: Havenstein

Swing OT: Noteboom & McClendon Swing OG: Thomas Swing OC: McAllister

I believe they will keep McClendon on their 53 man roster. He looks like a starter in the future, replacing Hav. so they will do some sort of 53 guys juggling between Tues & Thursday in order to keep him.

Dotson is not familiar with the blocking schemes, so I highly doubt he will be starting at any position.
