Not really new news, but I wanted a guy with a first person perspective that got to see both at back to back days. He (jimiramsboy) or Jim Fadler, was probably the main tweeter, and I thanked him for his efforts.
Isn't he also a ROD member. For some reason, I recall him coming here last year with a couple camp reports.
May have been someone else.

Oh yeah, must mention that Mannion might just be the real deal. I know it's early and not real yet, but I can't wait for preseason! He outshined the competition yet again but Keenum and Davis looked better than yesterday. Keenum has a better ball than Davis.

Rams cornerback competition revving up
By Nick Wagoner

http://espn.go.com/blog/st-louis-rams/post/_/id/19906/rams-cornerback-competition-revving-up

EARTH CITY, Mo. -- A year ago at this time, the St. Louis Rams appeared to have their cornerback duo of the present and future in place with Janoris Jenkins and Trumaine Johnson.

Then Johnson suffered a knee injury in the third preseason game that thrust E.J. Gaines into the starting job. The rookie sixth-round pick stepped in and looked every bit the part of experienced veteran, never looking back on his way to holding on to the starting job for most of the season.

With Johnson healthy and Gaines with a good season under his belt, the Rams enter this camp with a legitimate battle brewing opposite Jenkins.

"It'll be great competition," coach Jeff Fisher said. "We're going to kind of alternate them every day and see what happens. It's a win-win for us. We have a rookie from last year that played really solid defense for us and we've got a starter that unfortunately suffered an injury [last year] in the preseason and really never made it back other than some sub-stuff toward the end ... it's a good position to be in."

While Gaines finished the season (save for the concussion that cost him the final game) as the starter, he's actually a bit behind from a physical standpoint at the start of this camp. Fisher said Gaines had health issues he was dealing with but Johnson showed up in better shape than he's been in any of his previous three seasons.

So far, Gaines and Johnson have split work with the first-team defense much as they did during organized team activities. It would seem Gaines would be the preferred choice to win the job given that he is still under team control for three more seasons and Johnson is set to be a free agent after the year. But so long as the reps are being divided evenly, there's a chance for Johnson to reclaim his job.

If Johnson does win out or even if he doesn't, the Rams are in the fortunate position of being able to move Gaines into the slot to play the nickel much like he did at times last year.

Either way, Fisher and the Rams are happy with what they have at the position. They just need the preseason to sort it all out.

Barrett Jones took his turn working with the first-team offense at center Saturday. Tim Barnes did the honors Friday, which means Demetrius Rhaney will take his turn next. That's the same pattern the Rams followed in the spring.

Receiver Brian Quick was quite emotional when talking about how long and difficult his recovery from shoulder surgery was. Quick said he took a moment to savor the chance to be back in the game he loved when walked on the field Friday for the first practice. Fisher said there were initial concerns from medical personnel that the injury might be career-threatening. Quick said he did rehab every day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the road back.

A few highlights from the day. ... Safety Rodney McLeod came up with an impressive one-handed interception in team drills, picking off a floater from quarterback Nick Foles. ... Quick made a nice adjustment on a deep ball from Sean Mannion to come down with it despite tight coverage from Gaines. Quick is easing back toward full speed but looks sharp for someone just getting back from a serious injury. ... Gaines had a nice interception in 7-on-7 when Case Keenum attempted to hit Bradley Marquez on a deep out. Gaines read the route and broke on the ball with no wasted movement for the pick.

As expected, all signs point to Akeem Ayers being the presumptive leader to handle starting duties at strong side linebacker. He's getting most of the reps with the first team with Jo-Lonn Dunbar working more as the second-team middle linebacker.

The Rams are back at it Sunday night with practice set for 6:30 p.m. ET. It'll be the final practice of their "acclimation" period before putting the pads on Monday.

Starting to think Tavon as a return specialist only - we need that 3rd down Amendola type guy and it's sounding (of course awful early) that Rodriguez can be that guy....

Bailey isn't even in consideration? Bailey is perfect for it IMO.

I remember that Davis looked like hot garbage last year in Camp, but got better.....I am excited about Mannion!!!!

Honestly I don't care where anyone was drafted as long as they get that first down!!!!
I don't know, that's what I see in Bailey. He's not the biggest or fastest guy, but he's a solid route runner and has great hands. Though I think that Bailey could be much more productive.

Thanks for the reports guys!

It's too early for me to get too excited or too down on players. On defense Rams will have lots of different packages with different players. Defense is always ahead of offense early. I do like hearing good things about Foles and WRs/TEs. Good to see Quick looking healthy too. It's still a long way to week #1>>>Go Rams!!!!

Bailey hasn't dropped a pass yet in TC that I saw. If it's on target, and even if it's not, he's hauling them in.

Oh yeah, I had forgotten about this play. It was fantastic in that he totally adjusted to the ball, on the fly, in tight coverage, looking over his shoulder, and switching shoulders for the catch which he could never do before last season. So far, Quick looks good!

Bailey has solid hands, he only dropped 2 passes last season, and one was a poorly thrown pass by Hill, I know "crazy right" . Bailey was a big 3rd down and on occasion 4th down target. That's another reason I draw the comparison to Amendola.

Just Watched Solomon Wilcotts and Steve Wyche saying that the Seahawks are vulnerable to the RAMS...How often do you hear the NFLN say that? Thought to pass it on...

Bailey catches everything. They had one set with austin and bailey together out right (tavon outside)...the West Virgina! They're clearly trying to get tavon downfield more. He just wasnt able to get the separation he needs at his size, especially verse the likes of the bitchhawks. Although he did catch the ball (albeit out of bounds) on a rainbow. Bailey just catches the ball and does work. That guy is nails.

I wonder how long we need to watch Tavon featured more than Bailey. Back before that draft I predicted Bailey will have a better career. If they don't feature him at all I guess I am wrong but we all know what we are seeing.

Eh. I like em both.

Me personally; I think TA was a slow starter from the get go. Look out this year.

Practice Report 8/1: Quick Recovering from Shoulder Injury
By Austin Lankford

View: http://www.stlouisrams.com/news-and-events/article-practicereport/Practice-Report-81-Quick-Recovering-from-Shoulder-Injury/12f06197-2840-4ee1-9d0d-e8e46282b40a

Head coach Jeff Fisher addressed several topics after the Rams’ second day of training camp and among them was Brian Quick’s return to the practice field.

Quick suffered a dislocated shoulder and torn rotator cuff last October against the Kansas City Chiefs. He participated in OTAs on a limited basis this spring and continues to progress well.

“It’s remarkable what he’s overcome,” Fisher said. “The damage that he sustained to his shoulder was significant and there was some talk early on that it might have been career ending. But he kept fighting through each stage of the rehab one week after the next and he kept getting better. We sent him back down to Dr. James Andrews and he was amazed at his progress.”

Quick noted the arduous road he has taken to get to this point, saying he clocked in for rehab from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. most days during the offseason.

“I am a fighter and everybody can see it,” Quick said. “I want to fight out here with my teammates, and brothers, and for the coaches, and for this program. I am just doing it for them and I feel like I can continue to do what I need to come out here and work every day.”

The fourth-year wideout said he still has some small things to work on, but for the most part has full range of motion and is ready to go.

“I’m feeling good and I’m just ready to start the process of staying consistent and just having fun with the guys out here,” Quick said. “It’s going to be a process and I just have to trust coaches. And they’re going to watch me and see how I look, and we’re going to go from there.”

He also said that coming back from the injury feels somewhat like coming in as a rookie again, but wants to pick back up where he left off last year, which would be great for him and the entire team. Before his Week-eight injury he was experiencing a career best in catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns. While wanting to continue last year’s success, he said his return in 2015 comes with a new mindset toward the game.

“There are things that I didn’t take the time to appreciate when I was out here before,” Quick said. “Things happen so fast out here and you really don’t get the time to see what’s going on. And it made me realize that time is really limited out here and anything can happen at any moment. Everybody says it, but for me to experience it was different.”

Although the wide receiver is on the field running routes against the defense, he is being eased in slowly. Even though practice the past two days has been only in helmets, Quick has worn a yellow cap atop his helmet as an extra precaution so surrounding players don’t make any extra contact on that shoulder.

“He’s not there yet and you can tell we are keeping him off the ground,” Fisher said. “But he’s running and he’s still got a little bit of motion and flexibility to work on and some strength, but by all means we expect him to be back. So it’s a pretty impressive off-season of rehab that he committed to and that he got from our medical staff.”
