Smith's ability to match up in space against slot receivers and his willingness to get downhill and tackle will be coveted. Smith must learn to play under control as a tackler, but he should have a shot to come in and compete for a starting-safety or slot-corner job quickly.

Mayock: The Detroit Lions have a big need at DT with the potential loss of FAs Ndamukong Suh, Nick Fairley, and C.J. Mosley. They've gotta be thinking Aaron Donald here with the undersized athletic .Michael Bennett, but unfortunately for them a guy like that only comes around once in a generation. Still a good, solid pick at this point in the draft, though.
