if Edwards is at rt I actually think he will be an improvement that is how bad havenstien has been. I seen somewhere that it will be evans at rt now that is worse.

Lack of depth is how fully exposed and the books have balanced for the two years of OL health.

Edwards is playing RG, Evans is playing RT until Havenstein gets back.

I expect Evans to get plenty of TE help.

Demby is horrible.

The hope is Corbett is better with a week of practice with the starters. Hard to judge anyone coming off the bench in Pittsburgh into a mash unit.

I think Blythe is better than Allen, and thats not saying much.

I think Allen had progressed a bit....or the others around him had gotten worse, hard to tell.
Facing that OL should allow the Bears to create pressure without blitzing.
Rush four and mix up coverages.
Could easily turn into a 3-4 turnover game.
The Rams best hope is the D keeping the struggling Bears O in check and the Rams shortening the game by running (also limiting TO this way hopefully).
At least the young guys get some seasoning.....that’s about the only positive to find.

They need to at least try to avoid moving Edwards around too much. I get that they need him at RG now, it is what it is. But when Havenstein returns in a few weeks I would slide him in at RG and get Edwards back to the left side next to Whit who can help keep him grounded.

This is our ideal starting line with what is left IMO:

LT Whit
LG Edwards
C Blythe
RG Havenstein
RT Evans

Pass pro is not gonna be good the remainder of the season. BUT if you look at those OGs we do have a chance to do some power running on the interior with that look.

Oh and btw... They also need to sort who is the horse at RB. If Gurley stays on this 15 touch count and the other guys cannot step up go get CJ (yes I know I'm a broken record on this one).

Yeah I think we are OS. He struggled there when they were moving the right side around but OG protects his greatest weakness: his feet. The guy is strong and should have zero problems sliding inside in fact I would think chances of him being better than the other options at RG are pretty good.

Please let us see the 320 lbs. man-child Chandler Brewer at RG before we attempt that once failed experiment with Havenstein again at Guard.

I didn't want to bury this in the other OL thread (Mods move if need be) but I was wondering if the decline of Hav this year has been because of an ongoing knee issue and they can't put him out there anymore until it's fixed? Has there been any indication previously , other than his poor play, that he's been bothered with the meniscus?

I don't know the answer, but it's plausible. I've also heard on a podcast that Blythe has had some ankle issues. Not trying to necessarily defend him, just trying to explain. Either way, I think Blythe should have been on the bench a while ago, whether his declining performance is due to his ankle or him just not playing up to his former standard.

Yes Edwards play has been inconsistent and when he struggles it's ugly. But that is to be expected as he came in the least polished of the drafted o-line. Overall I think he's shown a lot of potential but he needs another year before he's really ready. But even now he's a much better RG than Blythe.

McVay is talking about keeping Blythe at center. He should look at the game vids because Bythe's play at OG as well as Center was really poor. His blown block caused the so called Goff fumble and it was only one of at least 3 during the game. They have a much better center in Shelton and IMO they should play him. Blythe needs to be on the bench where he has always belonged. They probably won't re-sign him next year so why not let the new guy get some real experience since they really don't know when Allen will be ready. Also for the Allen haters, he has actually played better than Sullivan. He's made some mistakes and bad o-line calls but that's expected with a new center. Overall I see a lot of promise in Allen.

Corbett played well at LG so I would keep him there. As I predicted, they have promoted Brewer and Deayon from the PS. Brewer allows them to move Edwards to RT or to play Evans at RT.

Yeah I think we're going to see Shelton in there at some point. Hope I'm wrong but I also have zero expectations for Blythe helping us improve at the pivot.

Thing with Shelton is the scheme and protections. Is he ready. Only the staff could tell us that but they might not have a choice here soon if teams expose Blythe.

He still has a chance to be a solid player for us if they get him off the edge. But we'll have to wait and see what happens once he comes back from injury if he returns this season.

How many 6'8" OG's have been successful in this league ? I honestly don't know. Can he get knee bend and not allow shorter stockier 3T DT's from getting under his pad level ? Put Donald on him in practice and see what he can do I guess ...

I even waited till Wednesday evening to buy my tickets , once I saw a great weather forecast . 60 degrees and a putrid Steelers offense were a perfect scenario for an easy win .
