I get the thought process but it weakens the Rams chances at a Super Bowl this year. That’s the priority.Primary goal is the Super Bowl for every team in the NFL. The fact that Stafford is thirty-nine (and might retire after this year) and Garoppolo is highly coveted - in addition to us having another first-round draft pick, and possibly a high one - could also swing the scales toward planning for the future as well as the present. Like I said, Rattler's not exactly chopped liver, and McVay has gone into the season with worse backups, and you make the Saints better able to win against the Falcons.
To make a dynasty happen, you have to plan for future endeavors as well.
It’s no secret that you love the draft and trading for picks. I think your lust for the draft may be clouding your view of what’s most important.
If Stafford gets injured, they still have a shot with Garapolo. The odds are so much worse with Rattler. If they get bounced from the playoffs right away are they going to be happy because they have another second round pick? No. Especially if Jimmy G leads the Saints to the playoffs.
And, if Rattler is any good the Saints would be foolish to trade him for a short term fix.
