That is a lot of info to unpack.

Since the Rams controlled the ball much more than usual they were able to keep the starters on defense in for a higher percentage of snaps. I hope and think McVay will try to keep a similar game plan. That way he can also keep Burrow off the field more while resting the defense. I wonder how the Rams will spread the carries. I think if Akers is healthy he get more this week than Michel.

It will be interesting to see if Howard gets more snaps with Reeder not calling the plays. Howard is very good in coverage. He and Scott give the defense more speed on the field to cover that very talented WR group.

Going all-in with Weddle to stop the communication gaffs is a big move. The defense is starting to peak at the right time. They just need to cover the shorter routes many expect Burrow to throw.

Burgess looks like a bust. Sorry to say. Rams had to go get a guy who hadn't played in 2 years because Burgess wasn't ready. That says it all.

Still plenty of room for him to turn it on next year of course. But I think that's very unlikely.

Eric Weddle was playing five-on-five basketball in retirement about month ago, enjoying life away from football. Now he’s set to play every snap in his first-ever Super Bowl.

The Rams brought Weddle out of retirement before their playoff run, easing him back into things. He played 19 snaps in the wild-card game, 61 in the divisional round and all 51 snaps in the conference championship. In Super Bowl LVI, he’s expected to be on the field for every play again, and he’ll also be the Rams’ defensive signal caller.

Raheem Morris shared that news on Thursday, saying Weddle will take over that responsibility from Troy Reeder, who’s been handling it in Jordan Fuller’s absence. For a player who’s been on the team for a month, it’s incredible that he knows the playbook and calls so well already.

The signal caller typically plays every snap, which Reeder hasn’t been doing in recent weeks. And given his struggles at linebacker, the Rams would probably prefer to rotate him more than they have, now that Ernest Jones is back from his ankle injury, too.

Weddle is more than capable of handling this responsibility, and after leading the team in tackles two weeks ago, he’s become an impactful player, too.

This is great news, though it's a bit surprising that Raheem spilled the beans in advance. Maybe he wanted to give Zac Taylor a bit too much to think about.

Weddle is a brilliant safety who has seen it all and fully commands the respect of the D. Weddle has to be our best defensive signal caller. Fully capable of calling out the right adjustments to whatever came in from the sideline. This should help avoid confusion in the secondary which is maybe the single quickest path to defeat (as shown by the Rams trying to stop the last SF td drive in regulation Week 18, and Tampa Bay trying to cover Kupp in the NFC championship game.)

Of course this also frees the Rams to use Reeder more sparingly, probably only on run downs, and Jones and Howard against the pass.

Imo the matchup of Jones and Howard against the Bengals talented talented receivers in short routes over the middle and in the flat will be critical. If the Rams take away those outlets the Bengals are toast.
