You should really let McVay know these things. Clearly he doesnt know how to hire and develop coaches
Did pleasant get a DC job? I have not seen anything about that, just that he had interviews with the Browns and Cards.
I added in the next part "it seems" to your bolding. There have been tweets in the coaching thread that he's interviewing for 2 DC jobs.

The hiring of Hunter is a good sign he might be gone but I just have not seen anything official about him actually leaving even though they have already announced a new DB coach.
Pleasant wasn't the DB coach he was the pass game coordinator/assistant coach. We actually didn't list a DB coach we listed a Safety coach and then Pleasant and Jimmy Lake as assistant coaches. We had Mike Harris as a defensive assistant to work with DB's but no actual DB coach. They may have relied on Lake or Pleasant to be the DB coach though. So even if he isn't gone Hunter hire is a need.

Tennessee football cornerbacks coach Michael Hunter is leaving for a job with the Los Angeles Rams before coaching a game with the Vols.
Tennessee cornerbacks coach Michael Hunter departing for the NFL
Tennessee football cornerbacks coach Michael Hunter is leaving for the NFL, sending coach Josh Heupel and defensive coordinator Jim Knowles into a coaching search.
Sources have confirmed to Volquest that Hunter is taking an assistant defensive backs job with the Los Angeles Rams. Hunter’s departure was first reported by Matt Zenitz.
Hunter was hired away from Ohio State last month to be reunited with Knowles at Tennessee. The two were first together at Oklahoma State before working together at Ohio State.
Co-defensive coordinator Anthony Poindexter continues to be in charge of the entire Tennessee secondary.
Prior to starting his coaching career, Hunter spent multiple seasons in the NFL after being a standout defensive back at Indiana.
Hunter signed with the New York Giants as an undrafted free agent in 2016. Following that season, he spent time with the New York Jets, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, Kansas City Chiefs, and one final stint with the Giants in 2019.
As a coach, Hunter has drawn praise for his work with cornerbacks as well as nickel backs.
“He is a very hands-on coach,” Ohio State senior Davison Igbinosun told Volquest. “He will pour into you in his off time. He gives me feedback on and off the practice field. If I have a good or bad rep he tells me about it. He watches film with me before and after practice. He pours into his players tremendously.
“I learned so much from him, from my sophomore to junior year. He came to Ohio State heading into my junior year. He completely changed my whole press technique and perfected it.”
Soon to be NFL first round pick Caleb Downs credits Hunter’s relatability as a big key to his success.
“He relates to his players at a high level,” Downs told Volquest last month. “He played college ball. He played NFL ball, so he really knows the game. He’s able to articulate that to his players and at the end of the day you know that the person who is coaching you has done it before. They aren’t just telling you stuff that they learned from a book. They have really experienced everything they are trying to teach you. I think that’s what makes him special.”
The Rams never specifically listed a Cornerbacks-coach in 2025.
They had a Safeties-coach (Chris Beake). Pleasant was listed as Assistant Head Coach/Pass Game Coordinator and Jimmy Lake had the title of Senior Defensive Assistant. So the cornerbacks were covered.
Michael Hunter has specifically coached cornerbacks in college, so it's POSSIBLE he can be added to the staff, without replacing anyone.

I get so frustrated when cornerbacks grab even when they have good position, and when they don't even try to look-back for the ball (would avoid so many DPIs).

Rams didn't have a CB coach. They had a safety coach and their pass game coordinator was a safety sourced coach.
I think that was an oversight by McVay and Shula. And said as much more than once. So I like this hire. It was needed, going off the fact we routinely had safeties developing and impacting games while our corners stagnated.
