I keep going back to the what if questions.
What if the Rams traded Tavon Austin to the Cowboys to trade up from the 3rd round 87th pick which was the Rams original pick, move up 6 spots to get the Cowboys 81st pick, and select OT Orlando Brown. I just get the feeling that he is going to have a much better career than Joe Noteboom when all is said and done. I hope I am wrong though now that Noteboom is a Ram.
The other one for me is trading up from 4th round 135 to 4th round 129. For a 6th rd draft pick, I think we could have switched places with the Jaguars and selected Josh Sweat at 129, and the Jaguars still would have gotten their selection of Will Richardson OT, at 135. Between 130 and the end of the 4th round, no OT were selected. I’m taking Josh Sweat DE over John Franklin-Meyers DE, everyday and twice on Sunday.
IMO I think this would have cost us the equivalent of 2 6th picks. The 6th we received for Tavon Austin just being a straight swap for the Cowboys 81st pick, and an actual 6th round pick to move up to the Jaguars 129th pick from our 135th pick.
A draft of:
Rd. Name. Pick #. Pos
3. Orlando Brown. 81. OT
4. Brian Allen. 111. C
4. Josh Sweat. 129. DE
5. Micah Kiser. 147. ILB
5. Obo Okoronkwo. 160. Edge
6. John Kelley. 176. RB
6. Jamil Demby. 192. OT/G
I really feel this could have been done with the draft picks we had available, and IMO I would have taken the chance with these players. But, luckily for the Rams, I am a wannabe draftnik and there are better (much) people getting paid to build the Rams with a vision for the future, and in the end this front office and coaching staff has done great things for the team and the city of LA so far. Just glad we got our team back in LA and the excitement surrounding the team now.
