They've been keeping their window open every year since they traded for Stafford. Only a calamity of terrible OL health in 2022 derailed them.
That's true but the acquisition of Garrett is a whole other level of pushing a big ass amount of chips to the middle of the table. Based on these moves you can tell that they felt so damn close last year.

I've already said multiple times that Verse is not at Garrett's tier but still has a chance to get there because he's barely 2 years in
Hard disagree brother.. we all love Verse but there's no universe where he develops to Myles Garrett's level. I think this is the major disconnect, not sure you appreciate how generational Myles is. He should be looked at in the same light as AD.

While there were other very talented DTs in the league while AD was playing, none were close to AD in his prime. Even perrineal pro bowlers like Chris Jones/Fletcher Cox/Cam Hayward couldn't hold a candle to AD.

Verse could develop into a true star, but there will always be a huge talent difference especially when it comes to pass rush (how edges make their biggest impact). Myles Garrett was 5 star prospect his entire youth, 1st overall pick, now is an all time HOF great and has a chance to be the GOAT.

I agree with your conclusion, but I disagree that Verse isn't explosive. He is. Verse doesn't have the bend to consistently turn the corner and win the edge. That's why he'll never be Garrett. He has to win with power, hand usage, and skill. Still has the potential to become a great EDGE, but he's never going to be an elite pass rusher. Can become a 10ish sack per year type of guy who gets a lot of pressure, but he won't be a 17 sack per year guy (Garrett's average over the last 5 years).
That 17 sack average is going up. He did that with a putrid offense with teams running the ball late to close out games.
He will be playing the lead in the 4th quarter and be able to pin his ears back and get the QB. And maybe ............. with AD at his side.
This season is going to be so freaking good.
Its still weird to see Verse and know he is not a Ram. He was the face of the defense. almost larger than life character.
Jared, don't sign your second contract with the Browns. Come HOME and play with Garrett.

Well said. I feel for Verse and hope that he plays in horns again if this hasn’t soured how he feels about the organization. He must be as shell shocked as the rest of us but worse. He is a brilliant player and leader but Garrett is a first ballot HOF not just looking for a ring but able to make it happen

Love Verse but he can't teleport like Garrett and never will.

Agree, hard disagree over here as well. Too early to write that young man off for me.

I just Luv Verse and the energy he brought.
I would rather have given up Agent Zero AND Fisk and kept that 3rd or maybe the 2nd and kept Verse.
He could still end up being a All Pro. BIG difference between a All Pro and Pro Bowler as we all know.

He will be an All Pro, dude is a beast. Him and Garrett together would have been insane but it ain't so. We have a sure fired HOF now (no complaints there at all so don't get it twisted lol). Verse's story still being written.

I don't know that during their respective careers Verse will ever beat out Will Anderson for 1st team All-Pro let alone the guys that are still in the league like Garrett, Watt, Parsons or guys coming in.

But it's a possibility. Def think 2nd team all-pro is a chance for a handful of years.

I do think he's always gonna be in the convo as a top 10 edge though.

I agree with this point, it was fair compensation. I think one of the many things that separates Snead from other GMs is that so many teams are focused on "winning" trades and too scared to pull the trigger.
I also like his ability to pull the ripcord and move on if something isn't working as expected or someone isn't buying into the program. It sure riles the fans and media up but he doesn't care. He sees the path to fix the problem and he takes it even if it's not "normal" behavior for a NFL franchise.

Yes, but he can get better there.
Certainly possible. That's up to the player to some extent, but how much better. Young for example has shown his ability to make up on the edge even when he gets caught a bit inside, going back to his college tape. It was the thing that stood out the most to me on his film in fact. And in space he looks comfortable because he's very athletic and has good change of direction.

Not that contain is the biggest element of course. I admit it's not. It just irritates me to see an edge get a little too creative and forget about those responsibilities.

We could for example play the "he can get better there" game with Young as it pertains to his rush. But just like with Verse he's not a rook, has some camps and seasons under his belt so how much better. Probably not all that much.

This is one of those conversations where I don't even want to have it tbh. Because I like Verse a great deal. And think a lot of him. But the dude has limits and that's why the Rams made this move. I don't see any reason to act all cautionary in evaluation of it like he's suddenly going to become something he's not.

I don't think any of us should be cautionary. Garrett is the gold standard right now and the Rams want to win right now. It just lines up plus throw in the fact that the Rams aren't scared to go after the best players. I love that we got Garrett, just wish we could have found a way to keep him and Verse paired together.

I'm fucked because I bought the rivalry jersey when it first came out so it doesn't apply. Should at least give those type of folks a discount but you know how greed will overrule all that.
Should send an e-mail or twitter or whatever to the Rams and see if they will do anything for you.

Take that a step further. First 34 games

Verse, 12 sacks
Garrett, 30.5 sacks

2 sacks games in first 34

Garrett 7
Verse 1

That's not taking anything away from Verse, just pointing out how Garrett took off from day 1. On a team that was 9-24-1 in those 34 games, while Verse played on a team that was 22-12. I feel confident Garrett did not have the number of chances Verse had to rack up numbers. Verse is actually an excellent player, which should indicate what type of player Garrett actually happens to be.
Anyone on here saying Jared Verse may turn into Myles Garrett is
not grasping what Myles Garrett actually IS ( on level with Aaron Donald, Ray Lewis, Reggie White, Bruce Smith). and that is a knock on their, (independent of the Rams) NFL knowledge.

I would call it disrespectful but I don't think it is. I don't know if some follow the League outside of the Rams that closely and then on top of that they overrate their own players. Saying Jared Verse may become Myles Garrett is actually a little hilarious.

That's a little harsh. I have always been of the opinion you can disagree with someone completely but let's not make fun of the guy for something he truly believes in.
