All of this playoff talk is as premature as the win at Seattle was.

We have to beat the Cardinals with a backup QB who's taken no snaps with the 1st string.

If you think Goff was holding back this offense... the whole playbook isn't gonna be open to Wolford on a week's notice... unless Wolford plays the game of his life (one can hope), the season is over after Sunday.

How?

GB locked up the #1 seed, so they may rest players. Chicago is fighting for a playoff spot, so they'll play their asses off.
If AZ beats us with our backup QB and Chicago wins a game where GB is playing backups, we don't make the playoffs.

So, if the Bears win as I expect them to, it's win and in for the winner of the Rams/Cards game.

I'll say it again. Unless our D scores 14 points, we don't win that game.

EDIT: I'm wrong. GB hasn't locked up the #1 seed, so they'll likely beat the Bears in which case we're in no matter what. We win, we're the 6th seed and go back to Seattle. Lose and we head to New Orleans.

Honestly, I dunno which is worse...
Green Bay has not locked up the #1 spot since Seattle won.

I believe the Seahawks still have a chance.

Edit - Green Bay beat Tennessee so yeah they have the number 1 spot

Our O-line looked like they were the JV trying to block the Varsity.

A scared JV and a pissed off varsity.

The thing screaming visually at me right now... The throwing windows are so tight.

The precision required to move the ball, no wonder we break down.

Where is the open running receiver? At least occasionally? (I’m joking... but you get the point).

Goff is struggling, but does he ever get easy throws any more? Everything is timing, timing, timing....

Probably a dozen times, I’m watching games this year and I’ve said out loud to myself... “I don’t like our offense”.

Even when it works... it feels like a lot of work.”.

I keep asking myself; am I seeing this wrong?
Im not going to defend Goff. He's played like hot garbage. But this is something I noticed. Our whole offense is different. And theres not a lot of open room for our WRS. Higbee up the seam against zone is the only time you see an open window really. I don't know if its route design or options which are different than previous years, or the lack of a "burner" to threaten taking the lid off the defense. It might be both. It might be more "jumbo" personnel we're running too, and the fact that the offensive playcalling is much less creative than it once was. But at the root of it all Goff is just not processing information quick enough. He leaves a LOT of plays on the field even when we make a completion, his progressions seem to be slow, and he looks hesitant to let the ball go. He looks hesitant scrambling, and he looks hesitant pre-snap (how many delay of game penalties or timeouts do we waste because of it?).
Guys just a slow processor I'm afraid. But McVay also shares a lot of blame for the troubles this year. He's got to go back to the drawing board, look at how we played BEFORE the Pats game and after the Ravens defeat in 2019, and go BACK to that.

This is the post I wish I had written. Clear and simple and it describes exactly what I am seeing.

Would someone please tell me, when did Goff break his thumb? Before or after that 2nd quarter pick?

I've seen some knock McVay in playcalling and creativity lately but my question is this..

Goff can't complete a fundamental pass, can't even make a decision to slide another yard for a first, can't even make a decision to simply throw it away on a roll our versus to pass it into no mans land for a terrible pick. So, if McVay can't even trust Goff with the simplest of decisions, why would he even open the offense back up and get aggressive when it's only going to cause (likely) more turnovers?

I'm not trying to harp on Goff here as I'll call a good game for him when I see it and s bad game when I see it (which is often lately). But would YOU trust him with an aggressive gameplan or to push the ball downfield?

I think Goff is afraid to play bad because his GF is going to dump him if he doesn't s

After - that pick was possibly the worst pass I have ever seen Goff throw

At least the other interceptions he was throwing to someone in the vicinity

But this was just a who the frick is he throwing to throw

He overthrew Woods and to the left by 10 to 15 yards

It didn't even look like he was trying to throw to Woods

I sarcastically said to my wife

Man if I didn't know better I would think Goff was trying to throw this game with that throw

That was not a throw away type play - Goff had easily 7 yards on that play and still threw it with Woods completely covered by the CB and as stated above - worst interception I have ever seen Goff make

I'm just saying, it's 1st and 10, nobodies open, you're in perfect position to just toss it away and get you make that awful, awful throw? How could you trust Goff right now if you're McVay?

Very concerned with Akers & Henderson, both of them to this point do not seem very durable, Akers has been out twice and over two years, when Henderson is utilized quite a bit, he seems to get dinged up.

As to QB IMO, you have to draft somebody, I would target the 3rd round and maybe not only will that push Goff, but down the road give the Rams a viable option at QB. My problem with Goff at this point is from the neck up, he does not seem to be thinking right and sliding before the first down is an excellent example.

I've been posting since September, that McVay's offense requires requires a WR that has the ability to stretch the field, he had Jackson in Washington & that is why the Rams acquired Cooks from the Patriots. I agreed with trading Cooks because I was concerned about his health, but now they need to find somebody who has that ability and I have not seen enough of Jefferson to believe he has that ability.

Hopefully the Defense can stay in tact, there will be some changes, but I'm hoping Staley stays and if compensatory picks are added, they can address CB & Edge besides actually finding an ILB.

I don't care about the playoffs, not trying to echo Jim Mora, but the offense has issues and I'm hoping Havenstein is okay, because they put in Tremayne Anchrum at RT and pressure from that area was obvious at the end of the game, not confident of the few plays I watched from Anchrum.

I agree with the WR part. I was all for trading Cooks because if health/contract but didn't think it'd put a hurt like this on us. McVay said he believe Jefferson will be a real star in this offense for us, and it's obvious Reynolds isn't it so play Jefferson some snaps them. See if he can stretch the field.

Also agree on the RBs, so far they seem to be made of glass. Lets just hope it's sheer fluke.

yeah i thought he was throwing it away and lobed it instead of firing it into the ground but he was out of the tackle box so why not just throw it out of bounds. i hope he is asked about that throw in a press conference it might be the only way we ever know what happened.

We are in a spot. I have been telling myself through it all that Goff is the guy. He just needs a little Oline help and maturity. Now, it's apparent that he needs Oline help and so much else just to reach adequacy. That's not good enough to be a starter of a team with Super Bowl aspirations. or at least not in 2020. I remember the reasoning when we drafted Goff was that we gambled to get a QB at #1 overall that you have nothing if you don't have a franchise QB. If so, we have nothing right now and no first round pick in 2021. I imagine Snead will try to get a retread like Matt Ryan or maybe Matt Stafford? I would take either over Jared Goff right now and I take no joy in saying it and keep our eues open for a diamond in the rough QB in 2022 or 2023..

When, at half-time the head coach says that the QB needs to see the field better, I think its no longer an assumption that its on Goff. When you see so many off target throws, especially short ones that is on Goff as much as it is the Oline.

He had several opportunities in this game to run. He's too hesitant to make the commitment. I brought this up a few weeks ago and Ill say it again here, he's taking too long to make decisions. He's processing what he sees too slowly. This could be from him trying to do too much, like you said or it could be him trying hard not to screw up. I think he's lost some confidence in his ability.

The odd thing is that decisions like when to run, or when to throw the ball away should be second nature for a four year starter. He's had to have worked on such things regularly every year .
If seeing the whole field is his main issue.....which I agree, it is one....that is a skill that develops over years normally, not weeks.

You have no idea how the guy works or doesn’t.
His relationship with coaches.
His relationship with team mates.
You have no idea if he is a guy who does extra work or not.
So tired of fans “knowing” what’s going on in a players head.

You're right, I don't. But when you have some of the best Offensive Coaches in football and you're regressing, and making the same mistakes that not even rookies make. I have rightfully have the opinion that your head isn't in it and you have some shit going on.

It's funny you mentioned the Matts. After the game, I went through each division and the team's QBs to see in all honestly, who I would take Jared Goff over right now. I came up with 3....Washington, NE, and Jacksonville. 2 more (Denver and Giants) are probably a wash.

It sucks, I hate it. I like Jared, I really do. But after 5 years and this is what we get. Man, this sucks. I've haven't been this down after an L for a long time. I can't get over it.

The whole offense has regressed.
Maybe Goff is at the dead center of that and maybe not.
The OL has been inconsistent, particularly running the ball, which I find strange.
The old “team looking for an identity” pops into mind....whatever that means.
