Georgia Tech is a run first, second, and third team and yet he got less carries then he did at Bama. I'm not trying to deny Gibbs is a talented back, but, for my money (its not) I'd rather have Achane in the 3rd then use 36 on Gibbs. This is provided they Rams are set on getting an offensive weapon of this mold. They are similar backs, both rely on blazing speed and both are undersized. They both can be featured in nearly the same way.
You and I are in the same boat here, Gibbs only got 25% more carries than his teammate McClellan at Bama and had similar numbers rushing. 6.1 per carry for Gibbs 5.8 for McClellan as the year progressed McClellan got more and more of the short-yardage carries and both ripped off long runs 81 McClellan 76 for Gibbs each had 7 td's too part of that was due to McClellan getting the ball close to the endzone. Gibbs has elite receiving ability so that to me is where he becomes a very interesting prospect. Gibbs is not a good run blocker although few are coming out, it is something to be considered especially for a back that will be featured in the passing game. Achane also catches the ball well and suffers from the same pass-protection deficiencies although he runs much tougher even though he is slightly smaller.
I certainly understand the intrigue of Gibbs as he may just pick up some weight and toughness and learn to pass pro.
Many experts agree with Memphis and I understand why but I still have doubts.

He was an 18 year old Freshman at Georgia Tech playing behind 2 upperclassmen and he outgained the 2 of them combined. An atrocious G-Tech team I may add who had to throw the ball a ton (for them) since they gave up so many points on D

No. Gibbs is far better at changing directions and a better receiver. That's what helps in making him a match-up problem. Achane has great straight-line speed but doesn't change direction nearly as well.

I'll definitely not disagree that Gibbs is better and that is the reason he will get drafted likely a round before Achane. I was just indicating my preference would be to use the premium pick on another position while still getting a back in the mold of Gibbs, provided that is what the Rams are set on doing. Otherwise I'd wait until 4th-5th round to grab one. I'd rather have Edge, CB, IOL, TE, WR before RB personally..... unless Bijan is there at 36 (he won't be) then all bets are off.

I get that, but when I see positions listed as alternatives instead of actual players it just boggles my mind.

Huge fan of Arquon Bush (like Trice and Luter, who are also two corners that I love.) Not sure I'd take Palmer; I'd rather take someone like Boutte or Mingo. Gibbs isn't the pick I'd go for with our first second, but I do agree that Akers could be dealt, and if that's the case, I could see it happening. Tuipulotu is a great prospect, but for my money, I'd trade down from the second, get a second and a third and take Anudike-Uzomah and Kraft.

Mingo should be long gone by that selection and Boutte is said to have character issues, so I didn't consider him. I didn't include any trades (though I'm sure they'll have some), so I just went with the kid with the uncoachable 4.33/40 speed.

The problem w/ Bama players is their whole team is good. So are you looking at the indivual's talent..... Or the sum of all its parts? I like the idea of getting the Oline up to speed (either through the draft or just getting people back on the field....) and our backs will all look better.
Just my 2 cents......
Absolutely agree. Lots of the time the entire offense can make the QB RB WR look great because the OL is so strong it opens the holes that normally wouldn't be there same with WRs the QB has more time they have that extra second to get open same with the QB the OL is so good that the QB can focus downfield and has more time to make the best decision conversely on a bad team a player who consistently stands out is usually a great player at the next level.

I agree with your predictions that the Memphis Rams may look at a player at the tight end position in the first round of the draft. That position is very important to the team, and I think they can find a great candidate to help them strengthen their game. I also really like your pick at the guard position in the second round. This could be a big step forward for a team that needs extra defense next season. However, I think the Memphis Rams team should also look at the wide receiver and linebacker positions. Those positions are also important to the team, and I think they can find great players in those areas during the draft.
