But he has gotten paid. I doubt he'll be begging on the street corner Like @Merlin and me....Stafford's only leverage is to make 0$
If he retires or holds out, he doesnt get paid

I think Stafford is the ONE essential Rams player. Without him, we may not make the playoffs the next couple of years. As much as I loved AD, you could not say that when he left.. The QB position is different and is more impactful than any other. Coaching won't make a John Wolford good enough and without a massive, franchise altering deal with multiple 1st round picks in trade, we are not replacing Stafford.Yeah. But if we are being honest, Stafford is some dropped INTs from possibly being considered in the same boat. Sure, he may be on a higher deck, but with those INTs he'd be on the boat.
I guess I'm just not one who believes that a team cannot offset the loss of any one player with the right coaching staff and acquisitions. Sure QB is different but so many said that the defense was toast without Donald, too. Would they have been better with him? Probably. Then again his presence probably stops some of the other additions.
So we have clarity from Stafford. And its good news. Now we need clarity from the Rams. If they think they just need a few tweaks to be a legit Superbowl contender they absolutely have to make sure he stays with the team and not somewhere else. Because there are not any better options out there than him. And he wants to be their quarterback for it. Kind of a no brainer.
Yeah. Will we have to disagree.I think Stafford is the ONE essential Rams player. Without him, we may not make the playoffs the next couple of years. Pay the man.
Hey I'm with you there, while you're at it Stan, pay us too! It's not our money, which is why we have deep pocket Stan Kroenke! Fork it over, STan!
Yeah, that defense Frisco had was more important than Jimmy G. for those two NFC Championships. Plus, we had/have an offense that requires more from a QB than Shanny needed, which was better than Frisco (Super Bowl 56).Yeah. Will we have to disagree.
IMO, if Shanahan can get to two NFC Championships and a Super Bowl with Garappolo, then McVay / Snead probably can put a team together than can make the playoffs with him.
Sure. But, one could argue that the defense was just as important as Stafford this season and with some additions could be approach that 49er defense.Yeah, that defense Frisco had was more important than Jimmy G. for those two NFC Championships. So yeah, we disagree.
I always think that argument of who has the leverage is overblown. The player has the talent and the team owns the purse strings. Yeah sometimes a player can have the team over a barrel but more often than not, it seems that there are other things at play that determine how negotiations go. The market for the player, the team’s power at the position, and where a team can go within cap constraints pretty much dictate the offer.I really think they don't have all the leverage. If they don't agree to a contract, it causes a huge headache for the organization to look for his replacement in a shitty QB market. Stafford and his agent know they are by far the Rams best option at winning right now. This whole he's under contract for 2 years means squat if he holds out. With that said, the part I respect about our front office is they don't dick around when it comes to tough decisions. Not saying it will, but if it somehow got ugly on the business side, I know they will not hesitate to rip the band-aid off and do what they have to do. I don't see it going down like that, but we'll all find what truly happens in time.
And there is something we also don’t know and can’t know. Does Staff want a contract for more than a year? Do the Rams have a plan for post Staff? I’d love to know but we won’t probably even after the negotiations are done.He has a contract with the Rams, and like last year, he doesnt need a new one. There is no other team, that's just fan fodder.
The question is, and we clearly dont know what the answer is, what does he want? If he truly is hinting at retirement, then there's no point in guaranteeing more than 2025. Both sides have been honorable and I dont see where that will change
Yeah, if all else fails, just do what the Patriots did. The league gave it's blessings to that shit.So Stan - if you’re watching - offer Matthew a consulting job in your company with stock options. Then the Rams can give him a zero dollars contract for two years. Done deal.
