thats interesting ....Goff in college i think only threw just a few redzone int's....maybe they did not let him throw there either....he has always had very low redzone int's......but i guess if u never attempt any....

Agreed. In watching us in the red zone I can’t remember the last time I saw a pass play called to the corner of the end zone. Maybe it’s me but I honestly can’t recall Goff using the corners of the end zone in the red zone.

Thought Goff was more than good enough to win yesterday.

Giants game-planned the run game and it looked like Goff might have checked out of some runs.

Not the best game for the Oline. Giants looked to crowd the LOS and lots of man coverage.

Good game planning by Giants.

2nd game in a row that Mcvay’s screens, end around and quick outs got blown up. Of course he was pissed.

He needs a counter strategy for when teams are covering the flats.

His screens have a short shelf life...I don’t like them with the way Giants played the screens.

The announcer said it best, 1st and goal from the 5 yard line, time to run the ball and show the Giants what you are made of.

First down, pass, takes the sack, then two more pass plays.

I was surprised by the light use of Hendo. He’s been tearing up the league, and today.....eight carries?? Did McVay make a statistical decision based on analytics? I praised McVay for staying consistent with the run game, but today we looked bland and listless. Hard to know what’s in the coach’s decision making process. Maybe Hendo was dinged up, and coach wanted to give him less carries to heal up. At least we won the ballgame, but this felt like a game from 2019.
he is probably dinged up and being saved for another day

Goff wasn't the problem. IMO two areas stood out in the game one of which is on McVay.

1. Offensively, McVay outsmarted himself. He knew the strength of the Buff's D was their front 7. So instead of trusting his original formula, he returned to last year's losing style of play. He abandoned the inside zone and gap blocking on the run attack and ran primarily the old outside zone trying to focus upon the perimeter. What he should have done was continue to build upon the success they have had with the inside run attack. That would have made the play-action more effective. It caused some confusion on the interior o-line, particularly on the failed blocking inside the Buff's 5 yd line. Blythe blew the call or his assignment as after the series, Sean had a very annoyed look on his face as he had words with Blythe as he came off the field.

2. Defensively, it was the same old story I've been saying all season. Staley's defensive scheme is far too passive. He doesn't attack he allows the offense to dictate the play. His passive scheme allows teams to march up and down the field and only tightens as the field shortens. He so worried about giving up the big play he sacrifices the short game, both run and pass to achieve his goal. What he is trying to do is emulate the style that both the Chargers and Seahawks run. But both those teams play it far more aggressively than he does. Also, both those teams allow too much yardage between the 20's and really keeps the games close. Seattle is successful only because Wilson is able to outscore the opponents. The Charger offense isn't as good so they are losers. When Staley does employ a man coverage scheme he's pretty successful because that is the kind of personnel he has in his secondary. Staley tightened up a bit this week but not nearly enough. He allowed a struggling offense to control the clock at the end of the first half. Only a very good play by Williams saved the Rams. It shouldn't come down to that. Once again he allowed the opposition to control the clock on their last drive. Staley's scheme is a freaking loser.

Could have been, but I'm not sure, I'd have to see the play again.

But he should have ran the ball down their throats there. We have the number one line in the league for running the ball, or at least we did until this weekend.

While that may be true it's hard to deny he could have done better. We fans don't know the play calls we don't know what he's asked to do. But the offense could have been more and he's the leader of the offense.

Well yes he could have done better of course, but just watching the game, the problems and mistakes we had, I don't see the fault lying with Goff or think McVay needs to "have a talk with him" maybe with himself

Yeah, he needs to switch the scheme going forward. Teams are going to start having their edge rushers prioritize Goff on the PA boots instead of following the runner.

Body language? Really?

To be fair, it's easier said than done. Maybe it's just me, but lately I've noticed a lot of teams struggling to get it in from the 1. Often it takes 3, sometimes 4 tries to punch it in.

Other teams don't have the nastiest run blocking Oline in the NFL either. The Rams do.

Agreed, the talk needs to be McVay with himself and get input from O'Connell.

Rams need to work on their red zone conversions overall, that's been a problem long before this game

Yes, I think McVay became too spoiled to Gurleys effectiveness inside the 10 and hasn't really adapted to solve it, partly because we typically score enough to win even with our red zone performance. Our D has also kind of been the opposite under McVay, with a bend dont break and clamp down in the red zone. Its interesting for sure.

Brown averaged 4.1 ypc
Henderson averaged 2.8 ypc
Goff averaged 6.25 yards per attempts
The Rams totaled 240 yards of offense.
There were no big plays Sunday....until Goff and Kupp hooked up on their long TD. It was the only play for the Rams offense of over 16 yards the entire game.

I’m assuming all the screaming for Henderson is based on Brown looking a step slow. Brown got one more carry. That’s it. I wouldn’t mind seeing Hendo more in space on third down as a receiver. Henderson’s best play was picking up a blitzer. Just a beautiful play.
It will be interesting to see how things go moving forward.
Watching the Whiners game last night Peterson’s cutesy play calling....WR sweeps, TE screens, bringing in a second QB....were almost all negative plays. McVay needs to take that crap out of his play sheet against SF.
Washington presents some challenges next week too.

For me the biggest thing I notice is the decrease of explosive plays from McVays first year up till now.

It’s almost as though we are running the offenses of the Patriots and Broncos when they had Brady and Manning in their 40s. The problem is Goff isn’t 40-he’s 26 and entering his prime. It’s almost as though McVay is so worried about turnovers/sacks that he’s limiting the big play opportunities from his playbook.

This is especially noticeable in the red zone as I have never seen a team call more screens down there vs taking shots in the end zone. Until I see some shots in the end zone-particularly some corner routes than I’ll come across feeling like McVay doesn’t have as much faith in Goff as I thought. I mean, we get down there and the vertical passing game basically disappears.

That was crazy! That was like Airport Security missing a guy with grenades strapped to the outside of his jacket.
