I think he started something he needs to finish. As the leader of the Rams he needs encourage others to do the same. The only out would be if Donald and Stafford decide to retire then he wasn’t the first to check out. Or god forbid he has health issues.

Consider this season is his first with adversity and a losing record. He also has a contract through 2026.

What message would McVay send if he quits now?

I don't see him being a quitter. He still has a star-studded nucleus to make another run. He may not stay through 2026 but, I think he stays two more years or longer.

When we saw his first comments about all his focus is here with this team, I think we misunderstood and assumed he's staying. Now I realize he meant this team right now at the time. Not down the road. I have a feeling he's stepping aside. He'll want to come back at some point. But if the next guy is doing well I'm not sure I'd want him back. Not to mention people will label him a quitter if he quits.

“Stay” has surged ahead!
Sounds like there was a ballot dump around 3 or so.....Also in order for a mail in ballot to be valid the signature on the outside of the envelope must match the one on the ballot itself.

Unless, of course, they don't then they should be counted anyway......

Fair to say 2022 was the most adversity he's ever faced. But this really isn't his first fight with adversity. Super Bowl 53 was a bad day for him. He pretty much was taken to the woodshed by Belichick. But he learned the lessons he needed to learn, kept fighting and led his team to the big game again, winning this time.

I still remember how the STL Rams responded to losing their Super Bowl. That pall hung over the entire offseason. It felt like a funeral. Then the Rams sleepwalked their way through the preseason, couldn't adapt to their new reality. The front office couldn't get over what had happened, friction developed between them and Martz. Then the whole thing went to shit. SB XXXVI was the nuclear bomb that practically destroyed the franchise. It defeated us for the next 15 years.

This thing could've gone differently after the Rams lost to the Patriots - again. Injuries to our offensive line in 2019, Gurley's career went south, Goff became a declining QB. But McVay held us together, made sure we stayed on the right path.

I don't really care for the "quitter" characterizations even if he does leave. He does not throw in the towel in the face of hardship. He's proven that already.

He is gone.

A rebuild of the oline and other holes
would take several years AFTER we get out of cap and draft hell.

He has a legacy and record to maintain and in a selfish way it makes sense for him to get out now before the “Sean Mcvay” brand is tarnished.

Here’s what we don’t know…the position Sean put himself into by mortgaging the future to get Stafford made life hell for a perfectionist. He knew that if he didn’t win everything he would be dubbed a loser…we just don’t know how much that adrenaline going that hard for the whole season did to him. To me, Sean was on the verge of burnout before the season started. Many of us on this board were worried about 2 things….the durability of the RB room, and the abilities of the back up QB role. Neither one of these issues were taken real seriously during the draft or free agency. I don’t think taking a change of pace back in Williams answered the durability issue. Many decisions with Wolford at the helm were just plain weird…having him throw Kupp into injury and not utilizing 2 TE sets left me baffled…Sean regressed…maybe burn out from SB year just absolutely drained him. Had no time to recuperate. I would love Sean to stay, but I think he needs to step away for a bit.

I predict that McVay won't coach in 2023, but he will return to coach the Rams in the future.

And yes, I'm willing to share what I'm smoking. It's got an uplifting, optimistic, maybe not realistic kinda high...

I hope he goes. It will be a clean break for the team as a whole.

He takes a one year sabbatical then returns to finish out his contract.

Personally, I just don’t see that happening. What coach (Quality Coach) would want to come coach the Rams for one season? As much as I HOPE McVay decides to stay with the Rams if he does decide to leave then I hope the Rams hire the best Head Coach available! Don’t want to see the Rams go through a “LAME DUCK” season (This past season was BAD enough!)!

If they promote from the current staff, no one has 'to come coach the Rams'.

If Raheem Morris does not get an offer from another team, don't you think becoming the Rams' Head Coach on an interim-basis makes some sense? It's been ten years since Morris was a head coach (Not counting the short time he was an interim HC in Atlanta).

It might be the best answer to a bad situation (McVay wanting a break).
Morris gets another head coaching opportunity; and, it's with a team he has experience coaching.
The Rams get some continuity for an unusual situation.
If he's successful, it gives Morris a better shot at another head coaching job.
If he's REALLY successful, maybe the Rams decide to keep him regardless of what McVay wants to.
Otherwise, it might allow for a smoother transition if McVay wants back-in (and the Rams want him) in 2024.

It's a fucked-up situation but it's the type of out-of-the-box thinking the Rams have become known for doing.

I want to smack Florio.

Can I smack Florio?

Do any of you guys have a problem if I smack Florio? I'm not looking to piss anyone off ... Except Florio.
I'd like to see him address McVay to his face so I could watch him smack the shit our of Florio! If he grew up with that whiny assed approach, it's surprising he's got any front teeth left.

They have a few candidates that would fit. I've been saying that Greg Olson would be the most obvious. His signing didn't make a whole lot of sense 2 years ago but I think it makes a ton of sense now. They created a position for him. After two years he knows how this team functions under McVay. He certainly knows how to run the offense. IMO he's also the obvious choice to replace Coen regardless of McVay staying or stepping aside.
