The Simpson pick absolutely means that!

Bank it. One way or another, that means we almost certainly have more Super Bowl wins in our future

Go Rams!

36:45 "This means McVay is going to be around for a long, long time."

"Ty Simpson is really going to fit the Rams offense."

Thank you for giving the timestamp. I clicked on it and immediately thought - "there's no way I'm subjecting myself to an hour and a half of Chris Simms"

After last night's press conference, it would surprise me if McVay calls it a career after this season.
At the presser, he looked like a kid who had waited all year for Christmas morning but got a lump of coal instead. Why not take an elite receiver there that puts this offense over the top - as if they weren't there already? Take another QB later on if you need one. Is Simpson much of an upgrade from Bennett who's been in the system for two years already?

Listen to what he said as well as how he said it. He emphasized that "this is still Matthew's team".

He did not want to show excitement about Simpson. He didn't want to give any impression that Simpson was the new guy to take over. He has to earn it and its Matt's team until he wants to retire. That was the message sent. They saw how Rodgers & Farve reacted to having a young replacement drafted.

They want Stafford to want to work with this kid and help him. They don't want any conflicts. So don't show any excessive love for Simpson. Sure Stafford is a vet QB and grown adult, but we all can act like jealous kids at times and they don't want that to happen.

I meant to say "wouldn't" in my post. Just McVay's lack of his usual jacked up attitude.

Yep I thought the same thing watching it this morning. I talked myself into liking the pick last night, but his demeanor at the press conference was wayyyyyyy off.

And the way Snead jumped on every question and Sean looked at him a few times, it seemed like a plan for him to not talk much in there.

I don't want to speculate, but that he said he's going to keep he and Matt's conversation between them......if he called Stafford and then Stafford said "hell yea I get it, we'll make the kid into a star" I have to think McVay shares a version of that. So I'm looking at:

-McVay was clearly pissed during the press conference
-He said he was going to keep their convo between them (which is his go to for difficult situations like Puka or Ernest Jones before him)
-He emphasized it was Matthew's team when he did talk

I almost wonder if Stafford said something like 'I came back to win a Super Bowl, not mentor a kid' - which would seem to be out of character for Matt, but it feels like what that is pointing to

I’m more than happy to be wrong—hell I freaking hope I’m wrong—but this pick made me think the total opposite. Watching McVay’s reaction and reading all the tea leaves pretty much confirmed it for me. This was Snead setting himself up long term in a post-McVay/Stafford world. Snead will still have his QB of choice on the roster and he’ll be on a rookie deal. Simpson will have gotten a front row seat to McVay and Stafford for 1-2 years and the roster will still have plenty of young talent. Snead won’t have to trade a bunch of picks or assets to find his new QB. Instead he’ll be able to use them on surrounding Simpson with the best talent possible.

The problem is….what if Simpson doesn’t hit? Then you wasted a top 15 pick on someone that is not going to help you win a SB in ‘26 or ‘27, you piss off your franchise QB and head coach in the process, and now you are trying to find your next QB when you are picking 29, 30, 31, or 32.

But what if whatever non QB they selected at #13 didn't hit or failed to significantly contribute?

For some reason that possibility seems to always be ignored as if slow development or even busts at other positions don't exist.

I mean if that happens, it happens. But at least you took a swing at having the best possible roster for a Super Bowl run.

Instead you reach for a player at 13 that won’t help the team in the immediate future. Simpson isn’t physically impressive. He’s only played one season of college ball, and he wasn’t good for about half of it. If we had traded back, got more picks, and taken him at 29 or 34, that would be one thing. But to take him 13th?!? It just doesn’t make any sense.

I’m actually looking forward to Rich Eisen’s show today. He got on his show yesterday and said the Rams would be absolutely crazy to draft Simpson at 13, and that it would make no sense at all. He and his wife are pretty good friends with Snead and his wife. Wonder if his tune changes today.

Funny enough JB and MJD had the exact same thoughts on the Rams pre-draft show. They were both like “no way the Rams take a QB at 13. Doesn’t make sense”. Now they will have to tow the company line but I’m glad I know what their true thoughts are.

But, what if there were no trade partners? The next trade didn't come until the 20th selection.
Plus, if they moved down, the Cardinals could have traded up ahead of them and grabbed him.

And what if the team felt that there were players that could obtain later were just as good as the players they passed on. I've read that some believed that this draft class had 10-15 1st round graded players and after that there was a large group of similarly ranked players. What if the Rams (who have all the information) believed the same?

While I disagree, wholeheartedly, your opinion on the player has been your best argument against the move, IMO.

It should be entertaining. Doesn't mean that any of them are right, though.
