Four consecutive seasons of failing to even make the playoffs, despite having an elite quarterback on a massive contract might be enough for both the quarterback (who will be 30 years old at that point) and the team management to be willing to make a change.
The veteran QB gets a fresh start, while his former team gets to reboot, with a younger roster, significant extra draft capital and significant salary cap flexibility (within one year).
Why is that not possible, or even reasonable?
The Bengals are just one more non-playoff season, in 2026, from being in that exact situation.
I raised this possibility last offseason, with the modification that Cincinnati was just two non-playoff seasons from being in that situation.
One down (2025) … one more to go (2026).
Not an Expectation, or even a Prediction. Just a reasonable possibility, in my opinion.
Doesn’t mean the Rams would be Burrow’s destination but would think Cincinnati ownership would prefer him out of the Conference; and it would require an aggressive, proactive organization, willing to take risks to make it happen.
Now, what organization fits that description?
